We were having a great time on the road to a beach vacation, laughing and talking, excited to get there as quickly as possible. Then all of a sudden, Randy said, I don’t think we are on the right road, we must have missed a turn. Ugh. We did indeed miss a very important turn that took us about 100 miles out of the way, delaying our trip by a couple of useless hours. That was not monumental, just a disappointing delay.
We sometimes stray from God’s Word and/or a prompting of the Holy Spirit to “turn here” or “go there” and delay what God intended as His best for us. But God knows us well and “and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”(Romans 8:28) and He puts us back on His perfect road again.
I am reminded of this as I read our next verse in Psalm 119:10,
“I’m single-minded in pursuit of you; don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted.” The Message
Sometimes I miss the “sign” because I am distracted by self and want to go my own way for awhile…causing another delay. But by God’s grace, I return to the right road when “I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.” Psalm 119:10, NIV
God’s Word coupled with God’s grace. YES! Relax, buckle up, we’ll get there!
Dear Heavenly Father, Like children, we ask repeatedly, are we there, yet? And we find we are not. But we seek You today with all that is within us. We give our hearts, minds, bodies and souls back to You today. Guide our path. Don’t let us stray and miss a turn. May our eyes be focused totally on You. In Jesus Name, Amen
