“That’s not fair!” shouts the kid on the playground who didn’t win. And then the loser changes the rules to benefit him for the next round. Do we do that? Do we try to change the Rules (God’s Word) to fit our desires? Will we win the next round on our journey through this life by doing that?
The prayer of the Psalmist shows that only God knows what is fair and just. Let’s think about it. Seriously.
“O LORD, you are righteous, and your decisions are fair. Your decrees are perfect; they are entirely worthy of our trust. I am overwhelmed with rage, for my enemies have disregarded your words.”
“Your promises have been thoroughly tested; that is why I love them so much. I am insignificant and despised, but I don’t forget your commandments. Your justice is eternal, and your law is perfectly true.”
“As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands. Your decrees are always fair; help me to understand then, that I may live.” Psalm 119:137-144, NLT
Maybe, then we should not worry about what is “fair” and concentrate more on the joy of the Lord and be exceedingly glad for God and His promises to take care of us…even when things seem unfair to us on the journey. To live knowing this relieves stress and restores the joy! To live looking for ways to “change the Rules” brings devastation to our souls. Yes, “I find joy in your commands”, O Lord, as the Psalmist does.
Dear Heavenly Father, Relieve the burden of stress we pile on ourselves from outside elements by restoring the joy of our salvation from within. Yes, Lord, I pray Psalm 51…”Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me, Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach your ways to sinners, and they will return to you.”
In Jesus Name, Amen
