WHAT ARE WE THINKING??

We are bombarded with the message of media that we “must have it our way”, that we “deserve the best”, and we “must command that our needs be met” in political arenas. We are caught up in it unless we can see it for what is…lies. Jesus taught us how to think so that Christ-like actions would follow. Our behavior follows our thinking. What are we thinking?

Peter helps us this morning to focus on Jesus in the midst of the lies of this world…

“Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him.” 1 Peter 4, Msg

STOP…did we get that? “Learn to think like him”…not like the world tells us to think. This is usually opposite, upside down thinking. Know that.

“Think of your suffering as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want.” 1 Peter 4, Msg

It seems we terrorize ourselves with…ourselves! It is a lie to think that we must live trouble free just because we are Christians! It is a lie to think we must be comfortable at all times. It is a lie to think our needs are more important than someone else’s needs. It is a lie to reward ourselves with what we think we need after a long day’s work. Then if the man-made reward does not come, we feel bad, trapped even, in our own prison of selfishness. Wow, there is so much to think about when your focus shifts to Jesus!

Dear Heavenly Father, Forgive us of our selfish thinking. I commit to stop and think more like Jesus today so I will BEHAVE in ways that please You, set me free from my own selfishness, and maybe help others get a glimpse of You in the process. Thank you for this “wake-up” call to more righteous thinking and behaving. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit’s power that will guide us and help us to focus and to think like You. In Jesus Name, Amen
