Luke and the Lost
After doing my dad’s business of balancing his checkbook and such, I discovered that it was time to pay his quarterly taxes. Wow, it seems he pays a ton back to the government, but thankfully he has it to pay and I write the check. It’s not about the money. It’s about gracious obedience in this world as we prepare for the next.
Give to Caesar what he wants, but give to God everything…seriously, it’s not about the money. Do we think our God will not take care of us? How arrogant. We (including myself) need to stop groaning and be grateful for how God provides. Remember when Jesus sent Peter to fish for the tax payment….yeah, it’s kind of like that…all the time. Sometimes we have to fish for it, but it will be there.
Luke 20, The Message
Paying Taxes
20-22 Watching for a chance to get him, they sent spies who posed as honest inquirers, hoping to trick him into saying something that would get him in trouble with the law. So they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you’re honest and straightforward when you teach, that you don’t pander to anyone but teach the way of God accurately. Tell us: Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23-24 He knew they were laying for him and said, “Show me a coin. Now, this engraving, who does it look like and what does it say?”
25 “Caesar,” they said.
Jesus said, “Then give Caesar what is his and give God what is his.”
26 Try as they might, they couldn’t trap him into saying anything incriminating. His answer caught them off guard and left them speechless.
God wants our undivided attention in worship of Him, in our love for him with ALL our heart, mind and soul. Taxes, shmaxes, it’s not about the money. Seriously.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I love the way You work in our lives to teach us about obedience that breeds integrity. I’m Yours, Lord. You own it all. I love you with all my heart, mind, and soul. I love you with all you have blessed us with and all that you have provided. Most of all, I am eternally grateful for Your salvation through Jesus Christ, Your Son. I know it’s not about the money. Continue to be with us.
In Jesus Name, Amen. I believe!
