God’s Acts
It is so easy to fall back on what little you know, to lose focus in the busyness of life, and to be merely impressed with Jesus as a teacher who taught us to live a good life without hurting each other. So, I am halted by the question that pierces my soul this morning that is asked by Paul to a group of disciples he meets while taking a side trip through the mountains. It is a question of reflection and evaluation for all of us. For we are all sinners, saved only by the grace of God. After the “saving”, however, what’s next? Do we embrace him with our hearts? Is He living in us, working through us from the inside out in our thinking and behavior? Can we lose control for awhile and allow Jesus to be Lord over all and in all that we are and do? Can we risk it?
Read and see what the Holy Spirit says to you. I have enough work to do on me! I need to be an out of control disciple…with God deep inside, calling all the plays in this game of life here.
Acts 19, The Message
1-2 Now, it happened that while Apollos was away in Corinth, Paul made his way down through the mountains, came to Ephesus, and happened on some disciples there. The first thing he said was, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? Did you take God into your mind only, or did you also embrace him with your heart? Did he get inside you?”
“We’ve never even heard of that—a Holy Spirit? God within us?”
What do we learn? Jesus purposely left His Holy Spirit to come and live inside all of us who believe and are saved by His grace. The Holy Spirit leads, guides, comforts in loss, protects us from bad selfish decisions, convicts us when we falter, brings peace to restless hearts and soothes the mind with Truth and clarity when evil attacks.
“Did He get inside you?”
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for Your Holy Spirit, our Helper, that is alive and well and active in our hearts, minds and souls. Take the lead. Come and reside deep inside for we are listening for your next direction. Guide every detail of our lives today. Thank you for saving us and not leaving us. Thank you for giving us a part of You to live in us. In Jesus Name, Amen
