Romans–Passionate Christian Theology
We are a sad lot of people if we think talking about a red cup more than Jesus will save us and others. Sigh. Let’s see what Paul says to the Romans. Maybe, just maybe we will learn more of what we could give people to talk about.
Romans 10, The Message
14-17 But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it? That’s why Scripture exclaims,
A sight to take your breath away!
Grand processions of people
telling all the good things of God!
But not everybody is ready for this, ready to see and hear and act. Isaiah asked what we all ask at one time or another: “Does anyone care, God? Is anyone listening and believing a word of it?” The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to.
**I want to be in that grand procession telling people all the GOOD things of GOD! Hallelujah! Don’t you? What if as many words about Jesus went out as the red cup? Paul goes on to say…
18-21 But haven’t there been plenty of opportunities for Israel to listen and understand what’s going on? Plenty, I’d say.
Preachers’ voices have gone ’round the world,
Their message to earth’s seven seas.
So the big question is, Why didn’t Israel understand that she had no corner on this message? Moses had it right when he predicted,
When you see God reach out to those
you consider your inferiors—outsiders!—
you’ll become insanely jealous.
When you see God reach out to people
you think are religiously stupid,
you’ll throw temper tantrums.
Isaiah dared to speak out these words of God:
People found and welcomed me
who never so much as looked for me.
And I found and welcomed people
who had never even asked about me.
Then he capped it with a damning indictment:
Day after day after day,
I beckoned Israel with open arms,
And got nothing for my trouble
but cold shoulders and icy stares.
There is no stone left unturned, no people group that God will not use to get people to talk more about him. I think He might be using Starbucks to get believers to talk more about him, to get real Christians to let people know the Truth in our walk as well as our talk. Are we so complacent that we won’t calmly and lovingly tell the Truth. Oh, we are in such need of a Savior and a Lord. Let it be Jesus! It’s all about God and what He did through His Son, Jesus Christ. Seriously. Let’s talk about Jesus more and more! (And I’m singing..)
Dear Heavenly Father, We believe, trust and want to tell Your story to anyone who will listen. We know we earn the right to tell them by loving You first and loving others they way You love us, without conditions. Thank you, Lord for saving my soul, for continually transforming my heart, mind and soul to be more and more like You intended for me to be. Wow, thank you for loving us that much. We are a mess in need of You, our Master, Lord and King of all. In Jesus Name, Amen
Let’s talk about Jesus, the King of kings is He,
The Lord of lords supreme, through all eternity.
The great I AM, the Way, the Truth, the Life, the Door,
Let’s talk about Jesus more and more.
