Philippians – The Happiness Letter
We are learning to be (or not to be) (snicker) all that God is expecting to be from the passionate pastor and evangelist Paul. This world tells us, through books, media, and SOCIAL media what to be, when to be, where to be, and who to be. When we follow what the world wants us to be, we eventually arrive at the land of disenchantment, disillusionment and disappointment. That’s a lot of “dis” isn’t it? Soooo, why do we waste our days trying to please the world when pleasing God has so many other rewards, forever rewards, in fact? Mm. BE happy, follow Jesus!
Philippians 2, The Message
12-13 What I’m getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you’ve done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience. Now that I’m separated from you, keep it up. Better yet, redouble your efforts. Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God’s energy, an energy deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure.
14-16 Do everything readily and cheerfully—no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night so I’ll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You’ll be living proof that I didn’t go to all this work for nothing.
What do we learn?
–BE responsively obedient.
–BE what you were when you met Christ for the first time.
–BE energetic. God’s energy and power is in all of us!
–BE pleasing to God with all of our life!
–BE ready to serve cheerfully.
–BE pleasant to all.
–BE a breath of fresh air in a polluted world.
–BE a glimpse of Jesus to others seeking Him.
–BE God’s light.
–BE His message of salvation.
–BE ready for Christ’s return. He IS coming back, you know. Might BE today?
BE still and know that I am God.
BE still and know.
BE still.
BE.
Dear Heavenly Father, Help us to BE all of the above and more as we follow you in responsive obedience. To BE with You and please You is our desire, our focus because of our love for You and Your love for us. May we feel Your Presence through out this day, a day to rejoice and be glad. In Jesus Name, Amen
