Colossians – Because of Christ
“I want to sit by him!”, “I want to sit in the swing with her!” All throughout life, from childhood to adult, there are special someones who make us feel better about ourselves, who brighten our day, who are so positive, we just want to hang out with them, be near them and talk with them. I have had several wonderful people in our life like that. I am grateful for them. I am grateful for you. Many of you read this every day. I have met most of you. Some of you I have never met face to face, but know that I pray for you, too.
As we read the beginning of the second chapter of Colossians I have thinking of all of you who read this and pass it on to others whom I’ve never met. My mind just wants to settle into gratitude for the way God works in our lives. So, Paul’s words to the church are woven into my prayer for all of you for today…for we are NOT in this alone…Praise God!
Colossians 2, The Message
I want you to realize that I continue to work as hard as I know how for you, and also for the Christians over at Laodicea. Not many of you have met me face-to-face, but that doesn’t make any difference. Know that I’m on your side, right alongside you. You’re not in this alone.
2-4 I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God’s great mystery. All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else. And we’ve been shown the mystery! I’m telling you this because I don’t want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so-called mysteries, or “the Secret.”
5 I’m a long way off, true, and you may never lay eyes on me, but believe me, I’m on your side, right beside you. I am delighted to hear of the careful and orderly ways you conduct your affairs, and impressed with the solid substance of your faith in Christ.
Reflections…
–Keep the faith.
–We are not in this alone…ever!
–We all work hard to stay focused on Christ.
–We all want to know God more and more.

I am not in jail as Paul was when he wrote this letter, but his words express the love and care I have for those of You who believe and are living out your faith daily…even hourly.
Randy and I work hard at secular jobs, but it is our mission to live Christ “out there” in the world who is lost without Him. I suspect you are, too! We are not in this alone.
Know Christ. Live Christ.
In Jesus Name, I pray, Amen.
