Colossians – Perspective
I am short in height. This is not a big revelation to those of you who know me well. I confess I see things a bit differently…at my height. I am also a bit of a clean freak when it comes to the kitchen. I was taught that by my parents. However, I only clean what I see. It never occurs to me that there is an enormous build up of grime on the top of the refrigerator, for example, because I cannot see it. So what I don’t see, I don’t clean. If I am going to really be serious about cleaning. Maybe I need to get on a chair and see things at a different level. I need to look at things from a different perspective.
Colossians 3, The Message
1-2 So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.
3-4 Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ.
What do we learn?
–We need to look up, get on a chair if you have to, to see where Christ is and join him there.
–Go after Christ and what HE is doing with all we have in us.
–Be alert. (He will help us keep the top shelf of our lives clean.)
–See things from His perspective. Know that it will be different than what the world thinks.
–Know that Jesus is Savior and Lord…HE is our life.
–Embrace this new life, our real life. Christ in us.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for saving us from ourselves. Thank you for helping us see things from a different perspective this morning and every day. Help us to see situations and people like You see them. Help us to be content with obscurity…like You. Help us to be more like You, think more like You and act more like You…with You.
In Jesus Name, and by His power in us, Amen.
