1, 2, &3 John – God and Love
There is nothing worse than walking into a dark room, stubbing your little toe on a door jam, causing you to dance around and knock over a lamp and the glass of water on the night stand! Sounds comical, doesn’t it, as you see this mental picture OR you have done it yourself? Turn on the light! Ah, but maybe you didn’t want to wake a sleeping loved one. Is that why you didn’t turn on the light? Well, we woke up the dead by walking in the dark, causing all kinds of ruckus in our attempt to walk in the dark. So next time? Walk in the Light! Don’t worry about waking up others.
John, who is the beloved of Jesus, as we all are, writes of walking in the Light of Jesus Christ so we don’t stumble. It begins by repenting of our sins. This is deeper than “oops, I’m sorry”, regretting you got caught. True repentance means “I’m tried of stumbling around in the dark, hurting myself and others.” It also means, “I don’t want to go back to the way I was, I want to walk in the Light of Jesus, so I can see what lies ahead with Him.”
Loving God begins with repentance.
1 John 1, The Message
Walk in the Light
5 This, in essence, is the message we heard from Christ and are passing on to you: God is light, pure light; there’s not a trace of darkness in him.
6-7 If we claim that we experience a shared life with him and continue to stumble around in the dark, we’re obviously lying through our teeth—we’re not living what we claim. But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purges all our sin.
8-10 If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast of them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. If we claim that we’ve never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God—make a liar out of him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.
What do we learn?
–Through repentance we get to share life with God, Himself!
–No sin is greater than His grace! Admit it, be done with it!
–All have sinned. To say we haven’t is calling God a liar. He knows us too well to try to fool God.
–He is God and we are not.
–Step into the Son-shine, get out of the shade! (An old kid’s chorus that comes to mind.)

Dear Heavenly Father, I repent of yesterday’s sins. Thank you for each day’s manna of fresh starts with a clean slate. I’m going to walk in Your Light of wisdom, grace with freedom from sin with a smile on my face because of your reflection. It’s all about You living in all of us. Thank you, Lord.
And I’m singing..
I’m gonna walk, I’m gonna walk, I’m gonna walk in the Light of Jesus every day!…
