Psalms of Honesty and Truth

We may tire quickly of trudging through the negative words of the Psalmist while making our way, through the weeds of world stuff to the outcome of the Father, but it is necessary to learn Who God really is in this journey. We read one chapter at a time and learn that God hears it all, knows what is going on in our lives, looks around for righteous, honest, sincere people who love Him back so he can bless them and turn life around for them. As I read Psalm 53 today, I feel the frustration God must have for us. “He’s looking around for someone not stupid–one man, even, God-expectant, just one God-ready woman. He comes up empty.” Yikes!

We get frustrated at the choice of leadership we have as we prepare to vote. We get frustrated when technology that we rely on suddenly doesn’t work for us. We get frustrated at people who wont behave like we want them to behave. We get irritated at how long it takes for service…at any place that we depend on for our own convenience. We even get mad at people who don’t drive correctly…in our thinking.

Now I feel stupid. No one but God has a right to be frustrated. Only God can turn life around, so why not drop the whining and self inflicted bad mood and BE the man or woman God is looking for to declare HIS glory, bless and love on…by the way we live our lives?

Everything else seems so small in light of God and what HE wants for us. Have we asked Him what HE wants lately? Elections, petty hurts, disappointments, frustrations, financial issues, medical bills, trying to please people who are irregular and unpleasable…let it all go and know that God will turn things around…and sooner than you think. Think about the “whatevers” found in Philippians 4 today and pray expectantly for God to turn your part of the world around. You will find peace when you do. I did.

“Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious–the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and god, who make everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” Phil 4, The Message

Psalm 53, The Message
A David Psalm

1-2 Bilious and bloated, they gas,
“God is gone.”
It’s poison gas—
they foul themselves, they poison
Rivers and skies;
thistles are their cash crop.
God sticks his head out of heaven.
He looks around.
He’s looking for someone not stupid—
one man, even, God-expectant,
just one God-ready woman.

3 He comes up empty. A string
of zeros. Useless, unshepherded
Sheep, taking turns pretending
to be Shepherd.
The ninety and nine
follow the one.

4 Don’t they know anything,
all these impostors?
Don’t they know
they can’t get away with this,
Treating people like a fast-food meal
over which they’re too busy to pray?

5 Night is coming for them, and nightmare—
a nightmare they’ll never wake up from.
God will make hash of these squatters,
send them packing for good.

6 Is there anyone around to save Israel?
God turns life around.
Turned-around Jacob skips rope,
turned-around Israel sings laughter.

In our search for Truth, we find He was here all along.

Thank you Father in Heaven for Your Son, Jesus Christ who is Truth. Thank you for Your Holy Spirit who speaks Truth. You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. You are the One and Only who turns life around and upside down and saves us. Thank you. In Jesus Name, Amen I believe. I am seeking You still. Praying expectantly.
