In our next passage of the Hebrew acrostic of the importance of relying on God’s Word for living life well, we see our writer struggling with relationships, injustices, terror from his enemies and the fear of handling all of life alone. Then he remembers. “You are the closest of all to me, Yahweh.” “I’ve known all along from the evidence of your words that you meant them to last forever.”

What assurance, hope and love this passage exudes for me this morning! Life will throw us curve balls, things of this world will break, relationships might be damaged for awhile, and our own dreams dashed, but God’s Word, filled with His promises, is FOREVER. We can count on it! His love, mercy, faithfulness, grace, protection, help, provisions, wanting the best for us is a forever attribute of God. That’s why HE is God and we are not. And to top it all off…we who believe, trust and obey…get to live with Him forever and ever, Amen!

Psalm 119:145-152, The Message

I call out at the top of my lungs,
“God! Answer! I’ll do whatever you say.”
I called to you, “Save me
so I can carry out all your instructions.”
I was up before sunrise,
crying for help, hoping for a word from you.
I stayed awake all night,
prayerfully pondering your promise.
In your love, listen to me;
in your justice, God, keep me alive.
As those out to get me come closer and closer,
they go farther and farther from the truth you reveal;
But you’re the closest of all to me, God,
and all your judgments true.
I’ve known all along from the evidence of your words
that you meant them to last forever.

Be as honest with God as the Psalmist was…He promises to be with us still…and forever! There is nothing here that lasts but God does. His Words will never change and are forever, too, to help us know Him more and more. Yes, thank you, Heavenly Father. Thank you for forever!
