PAUSE FOR PRAISE AND FOCUS!

“Let me hear of your unfailing love to me in the morning,
for I am trusting you.

Show me where to walk, for I have come to you in prayer.

Save me from my enemies, LORD; I run to you to hide me.

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God.

May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.

For the glory of your name; O LORD, save me.

In your righteousness, bring me out of this distress.

In your unfailing love, cut off all my enemies and destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.”

“Bless the LORD, who is my rock.” Ps 143, 144, NLT

Sometimes we wake up with the world’s worries on our minds. When that happens to me I turn to these words. When we feel our feet slip, God is there, He is our rock, our salvation.

Look at each sentence of assurance at what the LORD does for us:
“Let me hear, Show me, Save me, Teach me, Lead Me, Bring me out, Cut off the enemy, Destroy the foe” For I am Your Servant.

Trust Him, Only Trust HIM. In Jesus Name, Amen

BEST FRIENDS

MOSES, GOD’S FRIEND

Who is your best friend? I’m thinking of my best friend here on earth. I am passionate about this friend. I would do anything for this friend. I can tell this friend anything and trust that this friend will have my best interest at heart. This friend would do anything for me. This friend is my husband.

I was taught to be a best friend by God who is passionate about being a friend to us.

“You must worship no other gods, but only the LORD, for he is a God who is passionate about his relationship with you.”
Exodus 34, NLT

Having a deep, abiding, relationship with God, through Jesus Christ that is growing in love and trust teaches and allows me to grow deeper in love with my best friend. AND with others.

This passionate relationship with God teaches me about how to love others. I don’t worship them, but I try to love them like God loves me.

The more we read God’s Story we understand more about Who God is and what He wants. He loves us and wants us to love Him back. He wants us to love others in the same unconditional way, constantly forgiving, allowing for each others faults. This love compels me to tell them about God and His love for them.

Today, we meditate on these thoughts, in the middle of all the world’s busyness, we think about being a friend who extends real love. In Jesus Name, Amen

“AND THE DOG DIED!”

MOUNTAIN TO VALLEY IN A MATTER OF DAYS

It was a few days filled with reflection, repentance, and hearing God reveal His will for a new direction and focus for His church. I came back from these denominational meetings with clarity and hope for the future of God’s church. I went as a representative from my home state. Then I came back, down the “mountain top”, to a valley of everyday problems.

My family met me as I got off the plane. I was exhausted, mind blown by the experience of the previous few days, but still hopeful. I guess the tiredness was showing on my face when I was met with these first words from my daughter, “I know you’re tired but the dog died and lots of other stuff happened!” My three kids were not used to just having dad handle all the “at home stuff” of life.

The other two chimed in with other tales of woe as I was waiting to get my luggage. I felt as though I was being beaten down to size, as I listened. I could feel my shoulders drooping lower and lower. It was a bit overwhelming. I looked at my husband who’s glance told me he was very glad I was home to help him deal with life, together, again. I look back on that and smile. My kids missed me and chose to “throw up” all that information at once.

Moses has spent 40 days and 40 nights with the LORD, GOD, Himself on a mountain top. While this endearing leader was gone from his people, they assumed he left them for good and decided to have their own way and par-tay! In the worst way.

Yes, Moses’ mountain top experience concluded with God giving him the stone tablets “inscribed with the terms of the covenant, written by the finger of God”! Wow! And then…

“Then the LORD told Moses, ‘Quick! Go down the mountain! The people you brought from Egypt have defiled themselves. They have already turned from the way I commanded them to live. They have made an idol shaped like a calf, and they have worshiped and sacrificed to it.” Exodus 32, NLT

God is angry, so angry, that He wants to destroy them all! (Notice God says “the people YOU brought from Egypt”. He doesn’t even want to claim them as His!) From mountain to valley of desecration in a matter of days. Moses reminds God of His ultimate promise to them and God’s anger is subsided. Moses was Israel’s advocate, in spite of how sinful they became.

Life. It’s like that. Highs and lows. But God is with us still. He knew we needed a Savior…One who could save us…from ourselves and our own sin. Yes, He has seen us at our worst and our best. Jesus, our Advocate, sinless and perfect, our Savior, goes before the God of Heaven every day for us. This plan of salvation was no accident or after thought. It was His plan from the beginning of time. God knows us better than we know ourselves. And loves us, still.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.” John 3:16-17

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you. Cleanse our hearts. Restore unto us the joy of our salvation when we deal with “valley” things of life. Renew right spirits in us. In Jesus Name, Our Advocate, Amen.

MONEY!

Just the word brings us to attention. Money is said to be “the root of all evil”. This saying is actually a misquotation from the Bible (Timothy 6:10): “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” So it is the LOVE of money that is the culprit. Ah-ha.

We don’t generally like to talk about money, whether we have it or not. We will talk of everything else but when it comes to how much money we have…the room suddenly gets very quiet. We keep this information “close to our vest” so to speak. I suppose we are afraid someone will take it from us. IT has become a very important part of our lives.

I think of the story of the preacher who told the people of his congregation, that he had good news and bad news…”The good news is we have enough money to retire the mortgage on the church.” A sigh of relief went through the congregation. The preacher continued: “the bad news is: the money is still in your pocket.”

As we read Exodus, God tells Moses what he expects of the people so that His new Tabernacle is taken care of properly. Each person, twenty years old and older, must pay a percentage of his silver. “His payment to the LORD will be one-fifth of an ounce of silver…When this offering is given to the LORD to make atonement for yourselves, the rich must not give more, and the poor must not give less. Use this money for the care of the Tabernacle. It will bring you, the Israelites, to the LORD’s attention, and it will make atonement for your lives.” Exodus 30, NLT

God’s plan thinks of everyone. Rich and poor. Everyone can give something when it is based on percentage of what you have. Giving is a blessing of God that He has allowed to all of us. We all can give from what He has given to us. I like that. No one is exempt from the blessing of giving. Sometimes the “poor” among us know this better than the “richest”.

Dear Heavenly Father, You taught us to give…not because You need it but because of allowing us the privilege to give back. You gave us Your Only Son. Make me a better “giver”. Thank you, LORD. Your plan is always perfect. In Jesus Name, Amen

I WILL MEET YOU THERE — GOD

I WILL MEET YOU THERE — GOD.

I WILL MEET YOU THERE — GOD

Where do you meet with God every morning? I have been meeting Him, with His Word in my lap, with a bowl of cheerios and my mug of instant cappuccino on my desk in front of the computer. I talk to God through a journal first, then go to His Word and just listen to Him speak to my heart, mind and soul. This is my altar where I “lay it all down”. I pray for you, our family, needs, and praise Him for all. For me, my day cannot begin without meeting Him there.

God designed an altar for the Tabernacle which specific directions:

“Make a small altar out of acacia wood for burning incense. It must be eighteen inches square and three feet high, with horns at the corners carved from the same piece of wood as the altar. Overlay the top, sides, and horns of the altar with pure gold, and run a gold molding around the entire altar. Beneath the molding, on opposite sides of the altar, attach two gold rings to support the carrying poles. The poles are to be made of acacia wood and overlaid with gold. Place the incense altar just outside the inner curtain, opposite the Ark’s cover–the place of atonement–that rests on the Ark of the Covenant. I will meet you there.” Exodus 30, NLT

God met the people at the place of Promise through His Covenant, His agreement to always be with them. (“So they will know I am the LORD, their God”) He met them at a place of atonement where sins could be dealt with and be forgiven through sacrifice of an animal. Most importantly, is “I will meet you there”, says God to His People.

Because of the perfect, once and for all, sacrifice of our Savior, God’s Son, Jesus Christ, we can come boldly up to God and enter the throne room of prayer. Our “altar” is whatever we set aside for the purpose of meeting God on His terms. What does God require? That we “do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8, NLT). He wants a relationship with us! He loves us!

Because of Jesus, our Redeemer, our Advocate, we can come simply before Him..with His Word in our laps, praise on our lips, repentance in our hearts and hear what He has to say for THIS day.

Yes, LORD God of all, give us THIS day our daily manna.

Is your all on the altar? Reminds of a sweet hymn, written in 1900 by Elisha Hoffman which will be on my mind all day…

You have longed for sweet peace,
And for faith to increase,
And have earnestly, fervently prayed;
But you cannot have rest,
Or be perfectly blest,
Until all on the altar is laid.
Refrain:
Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid?
Your heart does the Spirit control?
You can only be blest,
And have peace and sweet rest,
As you yield Him your body and soul.

Would you walk with the Lord,
In the light of His word,
And have peace and contentment alway?
You must do His sweet will,
To be free from all ill,
On the altar your all you must lay.

Oh, we never can know
What the Lord will bestow
Of the blessings for which we have prayed,
Till our body and soul
He doth fully control,
And our all on the altar is laid.

Who can tell all the love
He will send from above,
And how happy our hearts will be made;
Of the fellowship sweet
We shall share at His feet,
When our all on the altar is laid.

Dear Heavenly Father, THANK YOU for meeting us where we are with all that we have. Lord, I offer my life to you…
In Jesus Name, Amen

SET APART, HOLY…AND HEAVY!

SET APART, HOLY…AND HEAVY!.

SET APART, HOLY…AND HEAVY!

We continue on in Exodus with reading about the exquisite, beautiful stone inlaid clothing that Aaron and his sons will wear before entering the Tabernacle to go before the LORD”S Presence with the sin of the people, making sacrifices for those sins, and offering the prayers of the people. We are amazed at the details of this special clothing for the LORD’S priests that are specifically designed by God. Each piece, every stone has meaning.

As I read about what each garment layer and robe will have sewn in, I am wondering about how heavy these robes and headgear are going to be and how many people it will take to help them get dressed before going to the Tabernacle?

Then I think about Jesus, God come down to man, Jesus. Jesus who came to us with nothing on his back as a helpless, venerable infant, later “wrapped in swaddling cloth”. Jesus who wore the clothes of commoners as he grew to be a man. Jesus, our High Priest, who carried our sins in his heart because WE were on His mind. Jesus who then carried our sins on a cruel cross on his back, after the flesh was beaten and whipped from him. That cross, as well as his heart, had to be heavy…and filled with excruciating pain. Yes, no exquisite robes…just a cross. Heavy. Heavier, but payment complete.

The Tabernacle is where God will meet His people. Aaron and his sons have been chosen and set apart to serve the LORD and represent Israel before Him.

The end of Chapter 29 summarizes, “I will meet the people of Israel there, and the Tabernacle will be sanctified by my glorious presence. Yes, I will make the Tabernacle and the altar most holy, and I will set apart Aaron and his sons as holy, that they may be my priests I will live among the people of Israel and be their God, and they will know that I am the LORD their God. I am the one who brought them out of Egypt so that I could live among them. I am the LORD their God.” Exodus 29, NTL

What is God’s Story telling us about Him today? God still wants one thing…to be with us. He wants us to love Him back the way He first loved us. He made a Way, Jesus. Accept that your debt is paid. Believe in His promise to always be with you. Behave in ways that give Him glory and praise. Love God. Love Others. It’s revolutionary. It’s counter culture. It’s refreshing to the world who is longing for unconditional Love and Truth. Jesus. THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life. In that order. Know the Way, live the Truth, then we have life, full and abundant life!

Dear Heavenly Father, You made a way for Israel to be with You in a very elaborate way. You set apart a priestly generation to represent the people before You. But they were not perfect. Then Jesus, Your Only Son, our Perfect High Priest, came to fulfill every law and promise, to show us how to live it out, and then once for all, paid our debt of sin. Thank you for salvation. Just thank You for freedom. I believe. I trust in You alone. Help us, by the Power of Your Holy Spirit to behave like we say we believe. Help us to love others as we love You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
