This is a phrase that my mom (and probably her mom) said that I vowed never to say to my children. What can I say? NEVER say never. In frustration, after three children, it came out…boldly and with much feeling. I didn’t have time to explain why in that particular situation so I fell back on “because I said so, I am the parent”. Not too long ago, I heard it come from the mouth of my daughter as she disciplined her children. Never say never.
As we grow up with God, our Heavenly Father, I see a more positive lesson in “because I said so”. Maybe it’s not as wrong to say it as we first thought. There are times when just simple obedience is required without explanation of why. It is best for us and God knows that. He sees the big picture. HE does not have to explain Himself…but he does with unfailing love and care. He sent His Son to die for us. Isn’t that enough? It is more than enough for me!
Jesus, loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to Him belong
They are weak but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
The Bible tells me so.
This morning, God’s “because I said so” is more than enough for me. How about you? Forget the why and just obey. Because He said so.
“I know, O LORD, that your decisions are fair; you disciplined me because I needed it. Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant. Surround me with your tender mercies so I may live, for your law is my delight.”
Psalm 119:75-77, NLT
In Jesus Name, Amen!
