The Good News
The kids are fighting and you, as the parent walk into the room and suddenly, knowing they are in trouble, there is silence. Their eyes are darting back and forth from each other and then back to you. It is the same with Jesus’ followers, his main guys. They are fighting about who is first. Jesus walks in and explains, once more, how his “upside down Kingdom” works, along with another lesson in servant leadership.
Mark 9, The Message
33 They came to Capernaum. When he was safe at home, he asked them, “What were you discussing on the road?”
34 The silence was deafening—they had been arguing with one another over who among them was greatest.
35 He sat down and summoned the Twelve. “So you want first place? Then take the last place. Be the servant of all.”
36-37 He put a child in the middle of the room. Then, cradling the little one in his arms, he said, “Whoever embraces one of these children as I do embraces me, and far more than me—God who sent me.”
Love God. Love others. Embrace and serve others and we are embracing God and His Son, our Deliverer.
Dear Heavenly Father, In just a few words and a simple action you give us the meaning of life with you. Thank you. Help us to embrace others like we would a precious child. Help us embrace being last, as a servant, a little tighter today.
In Jesus Name, Amen
