CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

John…on Love

Verizon has an infamous message in it’s ad that has become a common place and well known phrase, “Can you hear me now?” They boast that wherever you are with their cell phone in hand, you can hear and be heard. Guess what, Jesus really can hear us wherever we are. But can we hear Him? If our relationship is one-on-One, growing and maturing, we can hear our Shepherd call us by name. His voice becomes clearer and stronger to our listening ears as we our relationship grows deeper and more intimate.

My mom is gone from earth, but sometimes I still hear her voice in my head. Why? Because of our relationship. Jesus is not here physically with us but we hear His voice clearly because of our intimate relationship. He explains this loving, caring relationship to others, but at first they do not “get it”. Our Savior is so patient with us. In our favor, not because we deserve it, He continually seeks us, explains things to us, until we “get it”, too. I am extremely grateful His patience, for I am dull at times, too.

Read as we go from being “Blind from Birth” to “Deaf from Birth” so to speak, as John relates how our growing relationship develops greater seeing AND hearing.

John 10, The Message
10 1-5 “Let me set this before you as plainly as I can. If a person climbs over or through the fence of a sheep pen instead of going through the gate, you know he’s up to no good—a sheep rustler! The shepherd walks right up to the gate. The gatekeeper opens the gate to him and the sheep recognize his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he gets them all out, he leads them and they follow because they are familiar with his voice. They won’t follow a stranger’s voice but will scatter because they aren’t used to the sound of it.”

6-10 Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what he was talking about. So he tried again. “I’ll be explicit, then. I am the Gate for the sheep. All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate. Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.

Could we just stop and revel in the fact that HE KNOWS OUR NAME! In fact, before God sent His Son, we are told, “Our names are written in the palms of His hands”! (Isaiah 49:16) His love and care of us go beyond our wildest imaginations. We are a blessed people!

Jesus is calling us by name…”Can you hear Me now?”

Dear Heavenly Father, You have provoked my thinking, you have set my heart on fire, and you have reminded me just how personal this relationship of ours really is. I can hear You. Your servant is listening…and praising Your Name because You know our name. Wow. Now it is time for me to be silent, so that You can speak to me in ways I can hear. Continue to go with us…In Jesus Name, Amen. I believe.

And I’m singing…(woke up with this song…even before reading this passage! Yeah, that’s God!)

“He Knows My Name”

Spent today in a conversation
In the mirror face to face with
somebody less than perfect
I wouldn’t choose me first if
I was looking for a champion
In fact I’d understand if
You picked everyone before me
But that’s just not my story
True to who You are
You saw my heart
and made
Something out of nothing

[Chorus:]
I don’t need my name in lights
I’m famous in my Father’s eyes
Make no mistake
He knows my name
I’m not living for applause
I’m already so adored
It’s all His stage
He knows my name oh, oh,
He knows my name oh, oh

I’m not meant to just stay quiet
I’m meant to be a lion
I’ll roar beyond a song
With every moment that I’ve got
True to who You are
You saw my heart
and made
Something out of nothing
