Peter, A Breath of Fresh Air
I sit here in the quiet before the noise begins of selling memories of my mom and dad’s stuff they collected over 80 plus years in their lives. Some of our stuff is in this sale, too. But as I pray for God’s help in doing so, God reminds me of the true value and worth of mom and dad as people of God who trusted in Him and are there with Him now. They don’t care about the “stuff” of their journey here. They are now rejoicing with their “well done” reward with Jesus . They did not trip on the Cornerstone, they embraced Jesus Christ and lived for Him all their lives. That is what I will think of as we sell off the stuff of their journey here.
Don’t trip on the Cornerstone, embrace Him and He will turn your life from nothing to something that will cause rejoicing and gladness in your life, too.
1 Peter 2, The Message
4-8 Welcome to the living Stone, the source of life. The workmen took one look and threw it out; God set it in the place of honor. Present yourselves as building stones for the construction of a sanctuary vibrant with life, in which you’ll serve as holy priests offering Christ-approved lives up to God. The Scriptures provide precedent:
Look! I’m setting a stone in Zion,
a cornerstone in the place of honor.
Whoever trusts in this stone as a foundation
will never have cause to regret it.
To you who trust him, he’s a Stone to be proud of, but to those who refuse to trust him,
The stone the workmen threw out
is now the chief foundation stone.
For the untrusting it’s
. . . a stone to trip over,
a boulder blocking the way.
They trip and fall because they refuse to obey, just as predicted.
9-10 But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
What do we learn?
–We are chosen by God!
–We live for Him…not stuff.
–Jesus is the Cornerstone of our lives upon which we build our lives…which has nothing to do with stuff.
–Speak out for Him!
–Rejoice in being accepted by the Savior of the world and let Him be LORD of our lives!
Jesus IS the Cornerstone!
Dear Heavenly Father, I was overwhelmed and you calmed me down with Your Word of hope and glory. Thank you for the peace you give even before we ask for it. Thank you for being with us during the preparation for this sale, the memories generated and the hope of again seeing our family of believers, that great crowd of witnesses, who have gone to be with you. Thank you for preparing a place for me, too. I rejoice in the hope of seeing You someday. I am eternally grateful for you acceptance of me and making me feel like something when others have made me feel like nothing. You are God and I am not. I praise Your Holy Name!
In Jesus Name, Amen
