The trumpet is an instrument that gets everyone’s attention no matter what! The first notes of a trumpet player causes silence to fill a room. The trumpet has been used to call people together since the beginning of it’s invention. The phrase, “Oh, he’s just blowing his horn” comes to mind, too, which means he is calling attention to himself. So, is it the instrument or the person playing it that evokes such strong emotion? Some trumpets are played passionately and soulfully while others are loud and enthusiastic. Everyone loves a good trumpet player.
One of my favorite songs to sing as a testimony for my life is, “I Listen the the Trumpet of Jesus”. Here are a few words that I often catch myself singing…
“I listen to the Trumpet of Jesus
While the world hears a different sound
I march to the drumbeat of God Almighty
While the others just wander around
I’m a member of the Holy Ghost traveling band
We’re moving on up to a better land
I hear the voice of the Supernatural singing
Like only those who know Him can”
Okay, back to The Revelation of Jesus…Now we come to the place in the revealing of the sounding of the LAST TRUMPET by the seventh Angel. With the blaring of the trumpet comes a crescendo of voices in Heaven singing of the glorious coming of the Kingdom of God and his Messiah! I’m getting goosebumps running down my arms just reading this! Imagine it, as best our humans minds can, and try to feel the emotions that well up inside our believing hearts. Now listen and watch how the important Elders, seated before God respond.
Revelation 11:14-19, The Message
The Last Trumpet Sounds
15-18 The seventh Angel trumpeted. A crescendo of voices in Heaven sang out,
The kingdom of the world is now
the Kingdom of our God and his Messiah!
He will rule forever and ever!
The Twenty-four Elders seated before God on their thrones fell to their knees, worshiped, and sang,
We thank you, O God, Sovereign-Strong,
Who Is and Who Was.
You took your great power
and took over—reigned!
The angry nations now
get a taste of your anger.
The time has come to judge the dead,
to reward your servants, all prophets and saints,
Reward small and great who fear your Name,
and destroy the destroyers of earth.
19 The doors of God’s Temple in Heaven flew open, and the Ark of his Covenant was clearly seen surrounded by flashes of lightning, loud shouts, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a fierce hailstorm.
What do we learn?
–The LAST trumpet sounds! A signal for attention…
–HOW they worshiped: they ROSE from their seats, fell to their knees, and upon their faces, and worshiped God with reverence and humility! How often do we physically fall to our knees in humble adoration and thanksgiving, praising God for what He has done, is doing and will do?
–WHY they worshiped: They thankfully recognize the right of our God and Savior to rule and reign over all the world!
–The Elders and all of heaven rejoice in the Truth that His reign will be forever and ever. No one can wrestle it from His hands. Kingdom come, will be done!
–Finally, the trumpet signals the opening of the Temple of God! “The doors of God’s Temple in Heaven flew open and the Ark of HIS Covenant clearly seen”. During the power of antichrist, the temple of God seemed to be shut up, in a great degree; but now it was opened again. (Much like the desecration of the first Temple of God on earth by the Babylonians.)
–IMPORTANT TO REALIZE: (With Matthew Henry’s help) “As before Josiah’s time the law of God had been lost, but was then found, so in the reign of antichrist God’s law was laid aside, and made void by their traditions and decrees; the scriptures were locked up from the people, and they must not look into these divine oracles; now they are opened, now they are brought to the view of all. This was an unspeakable and invaluable privilege; and this, like the ark of the testament, was a token of the presence of God returned to his people, and his favor towards them in Jesus Christ the Savior and Lord of all who believe and live for Him. Wow!
–All the great revolutions of the world are concerted in heaven, and are the answers of the prayers of the saints.
Pause for Reflection…Am I just “blowing my horn” in this life or “falling to my knees” in humility when listening to the trumpet of Jesus?
Dear Heavenly Father, There is always more to the story of You than just You and the judgement that will come. Let us look beyond the imagery and see You…and then humbly live for You.
In Jesus Name, Amen
“When the trumpet of the Lord will sound and time will be no more…” (singing..again.)
