Psalms of Honesty and Truth

We take a break in our songs of human emotion, raw faith exposed, battles won and defeat dealt with to sing a love song to the King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus Christ, the One and Only for us will come and claim his bride, His church of believers, as His own in the biggest wedding celebration of them all. He will come in all His glory with power and strength beyond anything we have ever seen or heard.

Warren Weirsby states: “A song of loves” identifies this as a marriage song, and Shoshannim (lilies) identifies the tune to which it was to be sung. The wedding was obviously that of a king and note the mention of throne, scepter, and majesty. Of all David’s sons, only Solomon was anointed king. Solomon was noted for his wealth in gold, and he had a close association with the great city of Tyre. But it’s clear that one “greater than Solomon” (Matt. 12:42) is present in this beautiful psalm, and that one is Jesus Christ, the King of Kings.

Are we in love with our Bridegroom? Can we sing a love song to Him this morning? What words would we say? Will our song be joyful and praiseworthy for Him? What is our “lifesong” of love to our Savior, Lord and King? These are my thoughts as I praise Him and think of Him as my King of kings today…

Psalm 45, New Living Translation

For the choir director: A love song to be sung to the tune “Lilies.” A psalm[a] of the descendants of Korah.

1 Beautiful words stir my heart.
I will recite a lovely poem about the king,
for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.
2 You are the most handsome of all.
Gracious words stream from your lips.
God himself has blessed you forever.

3 Put on your sword, O mighty warrior!
You are so glorious, so majestic!
4 In your majesty, ride out to victory,
defending truth, humility, and justice.
Go forth to perform awe-inspiring deeds!
5 Your arrows are sharp, piercing your enemies’ hearts.
The nations fall beneath your feet.

6 Your throne, O God,[b] endures forever and ever.
You rule with a scepter of justice.
7 You love justice and hate evil.
Therefore God, your God, has anointed you,
pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.
8 Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume your robes.
In ivory palaces the music of strings entertains you.

9 Kings’ daughters are among your noble women.
At your right side stands the queen,
wearing jewelry of finest gold from Ophir!
10 Listen to me, O royal daughter; take to heart what I say.
Forget your people and your family far away.
11 For your royal husband delights in your beauty;
honor him, for he is your lord.
12 The princess of Tyre[c] will shower you with gifts.
The wealthy will beg your favor.

13 The bride, a princess, looks glorious
in her golden gown.
14 In her beautiful robes, she is led to the king,
accompanied by her bridesmaids.

15 What a joyful and enthusiastic procession
as they enter the king’s palace!
16 Your sons will become kings like their father.
You will make them rulers over many lands.
17 I will bring honor to your name in every generation.
Therefore, the nations will praise you forever and ever.

Pause to celebrate our love for God and His love for us…
Can we only imagine what it will be like when our King, Jesus Christ, comes to claim His own?
Have you stopped to consider how loved by God we are to be a part of His royal priesthood, heirs with Christ, part of His family…seriously? Whew.

Dear Heavenly Father, You loved us before we loved You. You loved us so much you provided a way to come into Your Holy Presence. Thank you, just thank you. I am overwhelmed at this thought…let me drink it in and be nourished by it all day long.
In Jesus Name, Amen. I believe!

And I’m singing…
Empty hands held high
Such small sacrifice
Now joined with my life
I sing in vain tonight
May the words I say
And the things I do
Make my lifesong sing
Bring a smile to you

Let my lifesong sing to you
Let my lifesong sing to you
I want to sign your name
To the end of this day
Lord led my heart was true
Let my lifesong sing to you

(Casting Crowns)
