Matthew – Fulfilled.
Others can reject your love, refuse your love, misunderstand your love, discount your love, spit on your love, ignore your love, impugn your love, but they cannot stop you from loving them. Others can hold your love in scorn, crown your love with thorns, and nail your love to a cross of shame, but they cannot stop you from loving them.
Bono, from U2, once asked the question: “How do you dismantle an atomic bomb?” The answer, he said, was love.
Love presses through as “it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” and love “sustains all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7 NIV; Hebrews 1:3).
The all-powerful God of love takes our fears and redeems them with his love, so we can move with the unstoppable, sustainable objective to love even those who seem impossible to love.
With Jesus loving through you, no one can stop your love.
This is living The Word…living love.
It is with this perspective of God’s original Love living in us, that we understand Jesus’ teaching of being “salt and light” to the world who does not know God therefore does not know Love. Jesus answers the questions of WHY we are here on earth now that we know His Love.
Matthew 5, The Message
13 “Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.
14-16 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
What’s love got to do with it? (As the popular song goes…) God’s love in us sheds new Light in the dark. People in the dark are drawn to His Light because of His Love in us. Why was Jesus so popular? He genuinely, unconditionally loved.
And I’m singing…
Light of the world, You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes, let me see
Beauty that makes this heart adore You
Hope of a life spent with You.
So here I am to bow down.
Here I am to worship
Here I am to say that You’re my God…
“For God so loved, that He sent His Only Son…”
Thank you, Lord.
