Matthew – Fulfilled.
“Risk it for the biscuit” we passionately tell kids at the school where we teach science, technology, engineering and math. Go out on a limb, stretch your abilities and solve problems with solutions that may or may not work, but try anyway. Go out in this world and fail because it is an opportunity to learn! If you are not ever failing then you are not even trying!
What I wish I could add in this public setting is, God has invested in YOU, so use His investment wisely! We all have been given an investment from God. He grows that investment as we use it to help others find and follow him and serve others with solutions to problems, making the world a better place to live and grow and mature! If we hide what God has given us then it is of no use to Him or to others.
For a new perspective, try to not think of money when you read Jesus’ next story to explain how God’s Kingdom works…
Matthew 25, The Message
The Story About Investment
14-18 “It’s also like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities. To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities. Then he left. Right off, the first servant went to work and doubled his master’s investment. The second did the same. But the man with the single thousand dug a hole and carefully buried his master’s money.
19-21 “After a long absence, the master of those three servants came back and settled up with them. The one given five thousand dollars showed him how he had doubled his investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’
22-23 “The servant with the two thousand showed how he also had doubled his master’s investment. His master commended him: ‘Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.’
24-25 “The servant given one thousand said, ‘Master, I know you have high standards and hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error. I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.’
26-27 “The master was furious. ‘That’s a terrible way to live! It’s criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least? The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.
28-30 “‘Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this “play-it-safe” who won’t go out on a limb. Throw him out into utter darkness.’
Think about it…
–Wow, we must take all that God has given us and INVEST it for His Kingdom work and for His glory! To do otherwise is risking eternal life with Him. Do we “get it” now? Invest well, choose wisely, but DO something. Risk it for the biscuit!
–I look back at my life and remember one challenge after another, complete with anxious thoughts and shaking hands, but it was worth diving in and watching how God used His investment in me to complete His work through me.
–I failed many times and was knocked down, but God lifted me up, brushed me off, tended to my bruises and invested in me again and again.
–Life with God is worth everything to me because God thinks I am worth everything to Him.
–He risked sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to save us. Our debts are gone…what do have to lose by following Him?
–Is God saying this to our hearts this morning?…That’s a terrible way to live! It’s criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least?
–How will our Master settle His accounts with us?
–Go for God’s best, His blessing, for His glory and praise…INVEST for His BEST!
–Go for the “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”
Dear Heavenly Father, THANK YOU for investing in us so that we could live Your abundant life to the full! I am ready to see what you have next for us. I am listening…watching…waiting as I retire from teaching, peeking around the corner, to see how You will use your next investment in me.
In Jesus Name, Amen
