Romans – “Therefore”

With all three children Randy and I had, the pregnancy went past the expected due dates. This proves doctors really don’t know the time when a baby will actually come or I was just hanging on because I was too scared to give birth. The latter was true with the first one. Then during the second and third, we were ready for it to happen! Let’s get this show on the road! I did all that I could, within safety guidelines, to bring on the births but to no avail.

When the due dates came and passed, I would go the weekly visits with the doctor telling me, “I KNOW it will be this week, it has to be, you are ready.” Then another week would pass with no action. He told me the same thing with three more visits! Then he took action and got the ball rolling and the babies came. What joy to give birth at last to three beautiful children. This is joy expectancy! But the final waiting was challenging to say the least!

Paul uses the pregnant condition to explain our wait for the coming of the Lord. We think He is late in doing so, but only God knows the exact, right time. Our work is to wait in joyful expectancy, trusting and obeying. As we wait, the joyful anticipation deepens. God is getting all of us ready from the inside out. Let it be, Lord, let it be. Help us to wait.

Romans 8 deliveringRomans 8, The Message (Continued from yesterday)
And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!

18-21 That’s why I don’t think there’s any comparison between the present hard times and the coming good times. The created world itself can hardly wait for what’s coming next. Everything in creation is being more or less held back. God reins it in until both creation and all the creatures are ready and can be released at the same moment into the glorious times ahead. Meanwhile, the joyful anticipation deepens.

22-25 All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it’s not only around us; it’s within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within. We’re also feeling the birth pangs. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance. That is why waiting does not diminish us, any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, don’t see what is enlarging us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.

26-28 Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along.

Think about it…
–Our wait builds and deepens our faith in the One who created us and everything around us. He knows what He is doing. He knows the time. He knows us by name.
–“The Spirit of God is arousing us within.” We more we get to know God the more we want to be with Him, commune with Him, love Him and think like Him. His desires become our desires. His heartaches become our heartaches. God is on the move and we feel the earth shake and our emotions stirred with passion for others to know Christ because of Him.
–The longer we wait, the larger we become, (smiling, because I know how big I got with each pregnancy!) and the more joyful our expectancy!
–If we get tired in the wait, help is on the way in the form of God’s Holy Spirit. He lifts us up and helps us to stand on the promises of God!

Dear Heavenly Father,
Your Word speaks volumes to us this morning. Help us all in the wait for the final day when You will come and make all things good and perfect. Keep us close to You as we draw near to You. I love you, Lord, heart, mind and soul. I wait with joyful expectancy! The outcome of the birth of our final deliverance will be more than we can imagine!
In Jesus Name, Amen
