Romans 8 – “Therefore”
What would it take for you to cash in all your resources and lay everything on the line for another person? When you do, that person must really be loved and valued by you to give it all so that their life is saved!
What if that person said no to your efforts? What if the one you loved enough to give it all for them betrayed you, turned their back on you, cursed you and spit on your gift then stomped on it? It would break your heart, right? It might even cause you to stop loving that person and all other humans.
But not so with God. God is on our side. He loved us while we were still sinners in a mess. He had a plan before our mess. He laid in all on the line for us because He wanted us for His own. We are of extreme value to God, so much so, that we cannot wrap our human minds around the depth of how much we are loved. We are accepted. We are in His family when we love Him back with a desire to walk in His ways for life. We are heirs with Christ when we choose the gift of salvation. Yes, we get to choose. That gift came at a price. God laid in all on the line by sending His One and Only Son to save us.
“So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose?”
Romans 8, The Message (Continued)
If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.
Hallelujah! Praise God! Thank you, Jesus for loving us enough. Always enough making us enough for You.
So, what do you think, now? Blessed? Humbled? My heart is overwhelmed at these words!
NOTHING we can think, do or say will stop God from loving you and me. Absolutely nothing.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the assurance of your love for us. Thank you for reminding us of our value in your eyes. Thank you for loving us so much you gave Your Son to save us. Thank you, Jesus, for sticking up for us when we mess up and need help. Thank you, Holy Spirit for your comfort in the bad times, your wisdom when we need it most and the constant reminder of how much we are loved, accepted and valued. How can we lose? We cannot. Continue to transform us.
