OPEN DOOR PRAYERS

Colossians – Christ in Us!

Remember show and tell in Kindergarten? We were scared and anxious but also excited about our latest toy or other item that was special to us. We got up in front of the class to tell our peers about this “unique” item. Then we would show how it worked. We would finish with allowing each child to touch and even hold it in their hands!

Once we accept Jesus’ work on the cross and repent of our sin to Him we are set free to love like He loves. Our joy in this new found and growing freedom, living with Him in us, learning to love like He loves gives us the desire to “show and tell” others about Him.

BUT…we want to say the right things in the right way so they understand our love for Christ and what He has done, is doing ad will do in our lives and in those we tell. We need help. Paul gives us step by step help in our desire to tell others about Christ. It’s what Paul, the missionary and church encourager, used, so I’m pretty sure it works.

1. Pray diligently for the lost without Christ.
2. Pray that every time we open our mouths we will make Christ plain to others. (No fancy theological words. It’s not about us, it’s about the simplicity of saying yes to Jesus.)
3. Pray that we will make the most of every opportunity. (Stay alert and ready.)
4. Pray that we will always be gracious with our words. Love must guide our passion to show and tell about Jesus in us. (Most will get a glimpse just by what they see and want to know more.)

GOAL: Bring out God’s best in others. We do not put anyone down for not believing.

Long ago, a young person asked me after youth group one night, “Will you love me and still like me even if I don’t buy into what you’re telling me yet?” I responded, “Of course, I will always love you. God loves you and so do I”. Simple words but it stuck with him. I obviously remember it, too. I prayed more for him. Later, he did accept Christ and “bought” into all that Christ had to offer.

Let love guide our thoughts, what we say, when we say it and how we say it. Let love guide our actions and daily living. Others are watching. We are always teaching something with our very lives whether we know it or not. We need prayer. We need our Holy Spirit’s help in our showing and telling of Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Lord.

Pray for Open Doors
2-4 Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude. Don’t forget to pray for us, that God will open doors for telling the mystery of Christ, even while I’m locked up in this jail. Pray that every time I open my mouth I’ll be able to make Christ plain as day to them.

5-6 Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for this reminder of how to love You and love others like you love us. Thank you for teaching us how to pray for others. Thank you for living in us, giving us the desire to share You with others and not keep You all to ourselves. May our lives reflect who You are. When needed, give us words that are simple and understandable. Continue to transform my thoughts and actions. Transform your church. Transform the world.
In Jesus Name, Amen
