FULLY FORMED

John – God and Love

1 John 4 fully formed
It is the time and season for our roses to show their stuff. Even the colorful buds are beautiful with anticipation of a gorgeous, fully formed bloom. I wonder if God looks at us with anticipation as we become more fully formed in His love. He longs for us to love Him back. His desire is for us to know how much He loves us. His love drives away all the anxiousness the world tries to heap upon us. Fear is at the top of the list. Would we fear less (and then be fearless) if we fully realized His deep, abiding love for us, a love that never fails?

John says, “Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life–fear of death, fear of judgment–is one not yet fully formed in love.” These words strike wonder in my heart this morning. My fears are silly and baseless in comparison to God’s love and care for me. My mind often overthinks, creating more fear. I am not yet fully formed…but on my way!

I woke up this morning singing to God and His love…
(Holy Spirit by Francesca Battistelli)

There’s nothing worth more
That could ever come close
No thing can compare
You’re our living hope
Your presence, Lord
I’ve tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your presence, Lord

Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your presence, Lord
Your presence, Lord

There’s nothing worth more
That could ever come close
No thing can compare
You’re our living hope
Your presence, Lord
I’ve tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your presence, Lord

Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory,…

After reading this last passage of 1 John 4, I realize why the song come to mind. God is so good, so very good. God is Love. Stop and realize the Holy Presence of God right now. Praise God for His Holy Spirit. Realize the depths of His love for us. “Fear not!” as is written many times throughout God’s Word to us. Be fully formed in His love.

1 John 4, The Message
(Final episode)

1 John 4 love drive out fearTo Love, to Be Loved
17-18 God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life of love, we live in God and God lives in us. This way, love has the run of the house, becomes at home and mature in us, so that we’re free of worry on Judgment Day—our standing in the world is identical with Christ’s. There is no room in love for fear. Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear is crippling, a fearful life—fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.

19 We, though, are going to love—love and be loved. First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first.

20-21 If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see? The command we have from Christ is blunt: Loving God includes loving people. You’ve got to love both.

Dear Heavenly Father,
I love you, too! There IS no one who compares with You, Father. There is no one on earth who could ever compare with your love for us. You are our living hope. You are the One I love and trust fully. You are God and i am not. And yet, you love me still. Thank you for Your Holy Presence in our lives that does indeed bring peace and drive out fear. Continue to help me be fully formed in your love.
In Jesus Name, Amen
