Psalms – Prayers of Honesty

Psalm 11, The Message
A David Psalm
1-3 I’ve already run for dear life
straight to the arms of God.
So why would I run away now
when you say,
“Run to the mountains; the evil
bows are bent, the wicked arrows
Aimed to shoot under cover of darkness
at every heart open to God.
The bottom’s dropped out of the country;
good people don’t have a chance”?
4-6 But God hasn’t moved to the mountains;
his holy address hasn’t changed.
He’s in charge, as always, his eyes
taking everything in, his eyelids
Unblinking, examining Adam’s unruly brood
inside and out, not missing a thing.
He tests the good and the bad alike;
if anyone cheats, God’s outraged.
Fail the test and you’re out,
out in a hail of firestones,
Drinking from a canteen
filled with hot desert wind.
7 God’s business is putting things right;
he loves getting the lines straight,
Setting us straight. Once we’re standing tall,
we can look him straight in the eye.

We learn today that God “hasn’t moved to the mountains; his holy address hasn’t changed.” He is always at work. While we sleep at night, He is fully awake and working on “putting things right”. He never sleeps. “He’s in charge, as always, his eyes taking everything in, his eyelids unblinking, examining Adam’s unruly brood inside and out, not missing a thing.”
We are also told in God’s Word that He not only KNOWS all the details of our lives, He DELIGHTS in the details of our lives! So, let’s look up, give up our meager control and give all the details to Him who is always in charge. See God as the One and Only in charge. “He loves getting the lines straight, setting us straight. Once we’re standing tall, we can look him straight in the eye.”
What awesome assurance in the God we love and trust!
What a blessing and relief knowing it’s not all up to us!

Having to choose between fear and faith, David chose faith. What fears must your faith overcome?
What Bible promise gives you great comfort when you feel threatened?
What is threatening to you right now? What is robbing you of peace?
Is it time to let it go, look up to God, putting our faith and trust in the One and Only who is in charge? Wait and see what He does with the details….
Dear Heavenly Father,
We repent of hanging on to stuff we should not and cannot handle as if we were in charge. Guide us through the messes we create or are created by others for us. Use these trials to refine and mature us to reflect You. May Your glory be seen in our growing lives. We know You have not moved. You are within arms reach. Abide in us as we abide in You. What a promise! Thank you, Lord.
In Jesus Name, Amen
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.” (Psalm 37:23)
