Psalms – Prayers of Honesty
I confess. I only know one God and I’m not Him. I turn to the One and Only God when I am happy, when troubled, when needing help, when there is no one to listen but Him. I have loved God all my life. I love God’s house. Growing up going to church did not satisfy my soul, only God in my heart and soul gave me complete peace.
When I accepted Jesus, God’s Son as my Savior, as a young child, I truly believed with child-like faith that He would always be with me. I simply believe. I would and still do make bad decisions, focusing on on my own desires, misstep and sin and He would pull me back into His arms and forgive me completely. Even when it took years to forgive myself, He forgave as soon as the words were on my lips. That’s God.
I love David’s intimate relationship with God spoken through the words of his prayer for today. “My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I’m YOUR choice!” Wow! Let that sink in. When we say yes to God and ask for forgiveness through Jesus Christ His Son, we are HIS.
As you read, look for all the benefits of choosing God and God alone.
Psalm 16, The Message
A David Song

I’ve run for dear life to you.
I say to God, “Be my Lord!”
Without you, nothing makes sense.
3 And these God-chosen lives all around—
what splendid friends they make!
4 Don’t just go shopping for a god.
Gods are not for sale.
I swear I’ll never treat god-names
like brand-names.
5-6 My choice is you, God, first and only.
And now I find I’m your choice!
You set me up with a house and yard.
And then you made me your heir!
7-8 The wise counsel God gives when I’m awake
is confirmed by my sleeping heart.
Day and night I’ll stick with God;
I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.
9-10 I’m happy from the inside out,
and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.
You canceled my ticket to hell—
that’s not my destination!
11 Now you’ve got my feet on the life path,
all radiant from the shining of your face.
Ever since you took my hand,
I’m on the right way.
SOMETHING TO CHEW….

Why does David see God this way? What are the benefits of choosing God and letting everything else go?
God provides for us. “You set me up with a house and yard. You made me Your heir!”
God protects us and gives us peace. “The wise counsel God gives when I’m awake is confirmed by my sleeping heart.”
God is consistent with love and grace. “Day and night I’ll stick with God; I’ve got a good thing going and I’m not letting go.” He teaches us to be consistent with our love for Him!
God floods our souls with joy. “I’m happy form the inside out, and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.
God is our future forever. “You cancelled my ticket to hell–that’s not my destination.”
God will guides our every thought, word and action that will please Him and keep us on the right path to His best for us. “Ever since you took my hand, I’m on the right way.”
HEART CHECK:
HOW can we say no to the One and Only God? I don’t have the answer to this one. I can only say yes to God. He is Truth. He is what I choose over everything and everyone in this world. And then I find I’m His choice? No words can adequately describe my gratitude.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I love you with all my heart, mind and soul. Thank you for loving us so much that you sent your Son to save us from our sin. OUR sin not yours. Thank you for all You have done, are doing and will do in our lives. Thank you for protection, provisions and blessings beyond our wildest dreams. Thank you for choosing us.
In Jesus Name, Amen
