HE LISTENS!

Psalms – Prayers of Honesty and Praise

psalm 116 praise godPeople pay a lot of money to get someone they trust to sit down, look them in the eyes and just listen to them. Knowing you are heard gives you an immediate sense of worth, value with a calm assurance that someone cares. It doesn’t matter how wronged you thing you are, how tough the circumstances seem to be, or how difficult that relationship is that you are trying to mend. If someone truly listens with understanding and love, wanting the best outcome for you, you can be healed, helped and lifted up from all kinds of debilitating depressions and anxieties.

God, our Father is that Someone Who can be trusted. When we pray, cry, lament and request his help, He listens. When we shout our praises of Who He is to us and others, He listens. When hurt leads to anger and we can’t put words together to express what we need only that we need Him, He listens. The Holy Spirit will form the words for us. And He listens. He does not share the information as gossip with the angels or others in heaven, He just listens. He is the One and Only who loves us unconditionally, full of grace and mercy, wanting only the best for us…and He listens.  God is not condescending but descends his ears to hear us.   I love that God listens.  I love how God listens.  I love God.

The Psalmist also has this figured out and gives God praise for listening…which in turn prompts our praise!

psalm 116 listensPsalm 116, The Message
1-6 I love God because he listened to me,
listened as I begged for mercy.
He listened so intently
as I laid out my case before him.
psalm 116 6Death stared me in the face,
hell was hard on my heels.
Up against it, I didn’t know which way to turn;
then I called out to God for help:
“Please, God!” I cried out.
“Save my life!”
God is gracious—it is he who makes things right,
our most compassionate God.
God takes the side of the helpless;
when I was at the end of my rope, he saved me.

7-8 I said to myself, “Relax and rest.
God has showered you with blessings.
Soul, you’ve been rescued from death;
Eye, you’ve been rescued from tears;
And you, Foot, were kept from stumbling.”

psalm 116 grace
9-11 I’m striding in the presence of God,
alive in the land of the living!
I stayed faithful, though bedeviled,
and despite a ton of bad luck,
Despite giving up on the human race,
saying, “They’re all liars and cheats.”

12-19 What can I give back to God
for the blessings he’s poured out on me?
I’ll lift high the cup of salvation—a toast to God!
I’ll pray in the name of God;
I’ll complete what I promised God I’d do,
and I’ll do it together with his people.
When they arrive at the gates of death,
God welcomes those who love him.
psalm 116 2Oh, God, here I am, your servant,
your faithful servant: set me free for your service!
I’m ready to offer the thanksgiving sacrifice
and pray in the name of God.
I’ll complete what I promised God I’d do,
and I’ll do it in company with his people,
In the place of worship, in God’s house,
in Jerusalem, God’s city.
Hallelujah!

psalm 116 pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
I love you because you listen to me every morning. I love that you speak to me through your Word. I love You with all my heart, mind and soul. Thank you for listening with a heart that wants the best for me. Thank you for loving me. I’m ready to complete what you have given me to do with other believers as we help people find and follow You, too. Thank you for listening, hearing and being with all of us always. The cost was Jesus. I cannot thank you enough.
In Jesus Name, Amen
