Psalms – Prayers of Honesty and Praise
My mom had the gift of always being right when it came to doing life. As a child she would tell me, “If you do that, this will happen and you wont’ like it.” IT could be anything I wanted to try that would eventually hurt me or get me into trouble in other ways. HOW did she always know what would happen? As a teenager, the “advice” didn’t end. “If you do that…” I would try anyway with exactly the results she said would happen. I would heave a huge teenage sigh and do what she told me to do in the first place…with better results. Again, HOW did she always know?
Mom knew from her own experiences and her own trial and error life. She also knew and followed the wisdom of God. She was a godly person who read God’s Word, believed exactly what He said and prayed for wisdom. Her favorite verse of all was “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV. I remember many “testimony times” in church when she would stand and recite these verses. Maybe she was on to “something”. She was right because God, to whom she dedicated her life, was always right!
Psalm 119, The Message
You are right and you do right, God;
your decisions are right on target.
You rightly instruct us in how to live
ever faithful to you.
My rivals nearly did me in,
they persistently ignored your commandments.
Your promise has been tested through and through,
and I, your servant, love it dearly.
I’m too young to be important,
but I don’t forget what you tell me.
Your righteousness is eternally right,
your revelation is the only truth.
Even though troubles came down on me hard,
your commands always gave me delight.
The way you tell me to live is always right;
help me understand it so I can live to the fullest.
FROM THE HEART
My mom and her advice are gone from me on this earth. I miss her. So how do I know what is right? I know the One who knows all, is in all, who created all and always knows what it right. HIS decisions for me ARE right on target, as the Psalmist writes. My mom trained me follow, not only what is right, but WHO is right. I am grateful to her for leading me to Him many years ago.
When troubles come and/or you take a wrong direction, God will correct the right course for you. Know God, Know His Word, Know what is Right and Good for Life. Listen to the One who loves you more than you can imagine. Trust and obey what HIS best is for you. Don’t lean or rely on what others think is best or what you think is right but focus on what God wants. God does not play “hide and seek”. He does not withhold His will from you when you seek and ask with a willing heart and ears to hear. What God wants for us is always right because of his relentless love for us!
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.'” (Jeremiah 29:11-13, NIV)
I know, right? And what I know is right comes from God. Look at all the “verbal” directives:
CALL to God
COME to God
PRAY to God
SEEK God with a humbly surrendered heart
Result? WE FIND GOD! GOD WILL LISTEN…You have his attention! We begin living Life HIS way which is right…always right. Will we mess up? Yep. But He will always bring us back to Him and corrects our course when we Call, Come, Pray, and Seek with a repentant heart.
His promises to always be with us have been tested and found to be true…and right. Yes, “the way you tell me to live is always right,” Lord.
I know, right?
Thank you for always being right, pointing the way to right living that is in our best interest. Help me to understand your Word so I can live life to the fullest with You. I love you with all my heart, mind and soul. I will be seeking and finding you by expectantly watching for you in every detail of today.
In Jesus Name, Amen
