HIS FAME WAS IN HIS TOUCH

Matthew – God’s Purpose and Law

Matthew 4 His touch
When someone gets our attention with a new song or a new way of doing life we begin to follow their news feed, dig into their story of where they came from and then get information on where this person will be so we can meet them. In our world of social media, the word about a person can be passed around the world in a matter of seconds. We feel we know them before we meet them because of all that has been said about them.

Jesus does not have cameras following his every move. He did, however, have an advance man, John the Baptist, who faithfully and passionately told people The ONE they had been waiting for was coming who would save the world. He also had the “social media” of the day…word of mouth. One person telling another person who told another person about who Jesus is, how He touches lives, brings healing and knows how to speak Truth in ways “we have never heard”.

Matthew 4 healing of her sonImagine the scene. Someone in your family was born with a debilitating illness. You hear that there is Someone who can merely touch them and make them completely well. Wouldn’t you do anything and everything to get your loved one to this Person? You want to find out more.

“Are you sure?”, you might ask. “It will be hard and painful to move my son but I will do what it takes if you know He can heal Him.”

“I am sure”, says your friend, “Jesus did for me, I know He will do it for your son.” Other friends join in the conversation. “Come with us, we will help you get your son to Jesus.”

Jesus fame spread because of one person telling another person who Jesus is, what He was doing and saying and how deeply He touched their lives.

Matthew 4:22-25, NKJV

Matthew 4 Jesus heals
Jesus Heals a Great Multitude

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

“Thank you for helping me get my son to Jesus!”, the woman shouted to her friends over the crowd of people. “I owe you my life and the life of my son.” “I owe Jesus everything!” Her son was fully healed.

Matthew 4 healing joy
They left the multitude of people still shouting Jesus’ Name and walked home together after their encounter with Jesus. “Did you see the way He looked at me, mom?” “I felt His eyes go right through me. I felt his touch from the inside out!” “I can’t wait to tell my friends what Jesus did for me.” “I want to sing, shout, dance and praise God all at the same time!” His mom lovingly put her arms around her son and hugged him tightly. There were no more words to be said. Her son was healed. Life restored all because of this man called Jesus.

Matthew 4 Jesus touch of help
Dear Heavenly Father,
This is only the beginning of the story of You and how you lovingly sent Your Son to seek and to save, heal and restore the broken, and make new creations out of all of us. Oh, how I love you, dear Jesus. Oh, how I praise you for making me new with each new day I walk with You. You are Truth, the Only Way to God and You are Life. Continue to transform me to be all You intended and created me to be…then do with You.
In Jesus Name, Amen

AND let’s sing….

You were the Word at the beginning
One With God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ

What a beautiful Name it is
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a beautiful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a beautiful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

You didn’t want heaven without us
So Jesus, You brought heaven down
My sin was great, Your love was greater
What could separate us now

What a wonderful Name it is
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a wonderful Name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a wonderful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

How sweet is your name, Lord, how good You are
Love to sing in the name of the Lord, love to sing for you all?

Death could not hold You, the veil tore before You
You silenced the boast, of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring, the praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again
You have no rival, You have no equal
Now and forever, Our God reigns
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name, above all names

What a powerful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a powerful Name it is
Nothing can stand against
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus

You have no rival, You have no equal
Now and forever, Our God reigns
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the glory
Yours is the Name, above all names

What a powerful Name it is
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus Christ my King
What a powerful Name it is
Nothing can stand against
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
What a powerful Name it is
The Name of Jesus
