Luke – Doors Wide Open!
Luke 8 branchesWe are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up everybody and sing
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up everybody and sing
Luke 8 allEveryone can see we’re together
As we walk on by
And we fly just like birds of a feather
I won’t tell no lie
all of the people around us they say
Can they be that close
Just let me state for the record
We’re giving love in a family dose
We are family (Hey, y’all)
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up everybody and sing (sing it to me)
Living life is fun and we’ve just begun
To get our share of this world’s delights
(High) high hopes we have for the future
And our goal’s in sight
No, we don’t get depressed
Here’s what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won’t go wrong, oh no
This is our family jewel
We are family (hey, sing it to me)
I got all my sisters with me
We are family (oh, I can hear you now)
Get up everybody and sing
luke-8-this-is-us-family.jpegWho doesn’t like to hear and sing along? This uplifting, joyful song sung by Sister Sledge almost has it right. Include the brothers and sisters together in Christ and you’ve got it! Here’s my lyric modifications:
We are family…Have faith in Christ and the things HE does and you won’t go wrong. THIS is our family jewel or goal! AND..Share in the delights of Jesus and what pleases Him! Yes, we are family! How do I know? The Bible tells me so!
Luke 8, New Living Translation
The True Family of Jesus
Luke 8 true family19 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they couldn’t get to him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told Jesus, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, and they want to see you.”
21 Jesus replied, “My mother and my brothers are all those who hear God’s word and obey it.”
Luke 8 family hears and does.jpgJesus took this as an opportunity to teach another spiritual lesson: being a part of His spiritual family is much more important than any human relationship and is based on obedience to the Word of God. It is not enough to “hear” the Word of God; we must also “keep it” (Luke 8:15).
As His disciples, His brothers and sisters who believe, we must concentrate and meditate on what we hear (Mark 4:24) and how we hear (Luke 8:18), because God will hold us accountable. Listening to the wrong things, or listening to the right things with the wrong attitude, will rob us of truth and blessing. If we are faithful to receive the Word and share it, God will give us more, but if we fail to let our light shine, we will lose what we have. It is a solemn thing to hear the Word of God.
Luke 8 this is us calledWe are family!
Luke 8 family
Dear Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior,
You love us so relentlessly and unconditionally. Help us to love like you love! You give us Your Word to understand so we can quickly obey. We obey because we want to please You from our reference point of loving you back. Thank you for bringing all who believe into your family. Thank you, Jesus, for dying for all our sins so we could come into the family. Continue to help us understand then do what You say.
In Jesus Name, Amen. I believe.
And now that song is stuck in my mind…Hopefully, like me it will remind you Jesus and His work to bring us together to God! We are family! Through good times and bad, we are family!
“And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.”
Romans 8:17, NLT
