TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
so loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
and give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

(Written by Fanny Crosby, 1875)

Psalm 29

A Psalm of David

1-2 Bravo, God, bravo!
    Gods and all angels shout, “Encore!”
In awe before the glory,
    in awe before God’s visible power.
Stand at attention!
    Dress your best to honor him!

God thunders across the waters,
Brilliant, his voice and his face, streaming brightness—
God, across the flood waters.

God’s thunder tympanic,
God’s thunder symphonic.

God’s thunder smashes cedars,
God topples the northern cedars.

The mountain ranges skip like spring colts,
The high ridges jump like wild kid goats.

7-8 God’s thunder spits fire.
God thunders, the wilderness quakes;
He makes the desert of Kadesh shake.

God’s thunder sets the oak trees dancing
A wild dance, whirling; the pelting rain strips their branches.
We fall to our knees—we call out, “Glory!”

10 Above the floodwaters is God’s throne
    from which his power flows,
    from which he rules the world.

11 God makes his people strong.
God gives his people peace.

WHAT DO WE LEARN—HOW DO WE RESPOND?

Almighty God, the Creator of all and is in all is in charge!  We are not.  God loves us enough to be in charge for this responsibility is too much for us!  God generously gives us a portion of all HE owns for us to care for wisely. Stewardship of our portion is a “rite of passage” as maturing believer as we grow our intimate relationship with the Father who owns it all!  With this responsibility comes God’s Help with His power to do what He says with directions from His Word.  There is no one like our God.

David knows God because God has schooled him in His ways. David applauded God for his protection and help. Though David still had problems, he knew that God was powerful and faithful and always worthy of praise.  God fills our souls with all we need to live on this earth until we see him face to face because he holds all the power and protection we need. Trusting him brings contentment we all long for, things of this world do not.

David’s psalm of praise begins and ends with a testimony to God’s “strength” with a description of His strength in the storms of life.

The response of us who are His children;

We fall to our knees—we call out, “Glory!”

And when we give God all the glory, His response is;

“God makes his people strong. God gives his people peace.”

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
and give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

Lord,

In the good times we’ve been schooled to give you praise and glory.  In the challenging times of suffering and confusion over the things of this world, we’ve been schooled to praise Your Name.  To you be the glory, honor, and praise forever and ever, Amen!

There is no one quite like you, Lord God of all! By your power working in me may your glory be seen in me today.

In Jesus Name, Amen
