What is it that draws people, even those sitting in cheap motel room pondering hurting themselves, reach for the Gideon Bible in the drawer?  What draws believers to reading the Bible before beginning their day?  And when we read it, how is it possible to see and understand the words differently than the day before?  What is it about the Bible—God’s Words to all who believe and read them—that causes us to be still for just a moment and listen?  I have learned that reading what He says with a heart that seeks God with a desire to please him transforms me to be more like Him for it is God who IS the Word.

Our hunger and thirst for God is real but at times we don’t know what to name it for we look in all the wrong places to feed our souls.  We learn sooner or later that coming to His Word with a heart, mind, and soul yielded and surrender to what He has to say to us becomes this holy moment of visualizing Him sitting right beside us.  His Word is our daily manna given from heaven to earth as a gift for abundant living.  We don’t have to guess who God is or what He desires as His best for us and wants to do in us and through us—His Word speaks and His Holy Spirit leads us to the Truth we need for each day of our lives.  

Read with open eyes and hearts to listen to God through Is Word—He longs to speak with us along the road of life as we humbly walk with Him. By the light of His Word we truly see where we are going with Him like the Psalmist testifies!  His great Love never fails to save us and set us free from sin and everything else that shackles us earthbound or blocks our view of Him. 

God is for us; not against us—what a powerful truth He tells us in His Word that most of us know but need to hear daily.  It is the daily discipline of feeding on His Word that our need for Him becomes evident.  We are less likely to turn to the left or right, distracted and deceived by the Enemy when our eyes are focus on Him and what He says.  God is the Word who came from heaven, in person, to teach us what the Word means.  Seek God first and all the things He knows you need will be given to you.  You will find God in His Word for God is The Word. 

God in His Word is our “daily manna in the desert of decision making” that feeds our hearts, minds, and souls.  God is looking for hearts fully committed to Him.  He is ready to pour out His blessings, unmeasured blessings, of Truth that we so desperately need as we seek to walking humbly with Him.  As we feed on His manna of His word to us, our daily decision making skills become wiser and a lot less foolish. 

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” John 1:18

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17

WHAT DO WE LEARN—HOW DO WE RESPOND?

God is the Giver of Light.  Jesus is the Light of the World.  God gave His Son to die for our sins but was raised up on the third day to give us another gift—eternal life with Him.  God, through Jesus, gave us the Holy Spirit power, power equal to rising from the dead to us to overcome evil in this world when we yield to this power that lives within us.  God gave His Word from the beginning so that all would know God is God and we are not.

All praise goes to God and to His Son who saved us.  We thank God for His Holy Spirit who guides us to Truth.  We thank God for His Word of direction as we seek His purpose for us. Just like we don’t praise the food itself but the one who prepared it and set it before us; We praise God alone who provided His Word to feed us our daily manna of Truth.

Come to the Table, gaze with gratitude the feast of His Word laid out before us.  Don’t dive in to gobble huge bites quickly that is not good for digesting Truth internally. Pause with each small bite to savor all the flavors of His Truth for God’s Word to us is a profound and delightful delicacy to be taken in with His peace with His Presence surrounding us.  It is our God of the Word that sits with us to watch us enjoy all that He has provided for us—the way to know Him more.  Ah, it is then we understand how His Words are sweeter than honey and more precious than all the gold and silver of the world! 

To God be all the glory!  All praise to Jesus for willingly coming to earth to save us and set us free as Father God demonstrated in the flesh who He is and with how much He loves us. All thanks to God for His Holy Spirit who lives within our being to guide us to Truth!  His Holy Spirit is for us; not against us!  God’s Spirit within us is our supreme Counselor, who is available at all hours of the day or night to comfort us when we are confused, to explain in small bites what we do not yet understand, to convict us lovingly with corrective ways to live so we will grow and mature in our relationship with God through Jesus!  It is the Holy Spirit from God who reminds us that our identity if not defined by the world but by the One who created us in His own image and delights in knowing and helping us!  We are His because He first loved us and chose us to His own as joint heirs of eternity with Jesus, His Son!  Pause to let all this sink in.  Take all the time you

Lord,

Thank you for being with us always. Thank you for Your Word that speak Truth to us as we walk and talk with you daily. Thank you for your unconditional, unchanging, relentless love for us that does not condemn our sin but redeems and corrects our walk on your path. Thank you for your wisdom when we ask for help in the walk. Thank you for your example, dear Jesus, of how to humbly walk with God by demonstrating your dependence of what He says before doing His will in a world that needs to know Him. Thank you for all the ways you speak to us in prayerful communication to you then through our Word and if that wasn’t all, you send people who know you as mentors to help us grow in our relationship with you.  YOU, God, covered all the bases!  You know us better than we know ourselves—for you created us.  Thank you for not giving up me!  I love you, Lord.  As long as you give me breath on earth, I will speak your Name, tell your story of your relentless love, unending mercies, and saving grace.  Daily I surrender and ask for your wisdom and direction as I write about You from Your Word so your Light can be sent to the masses through Daily Manna.  You, God are amazing!  May your Light shine through me always. Life is indeed all about You!  I’m yours and I’m listening.
