Proverbs 4, The Message
“Take this to heart. Do what I tell you—live!
Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won’t regret it;
Hold tight to good advice; don’t relax your grip.
Learn It by Heart
OUR EVERY LIVES ARE AT STAKE
CONSIDER THE CHOICES

What?! There is a sin in assuming? Yes. When I assume what people are thinking, I am in judgement about thoughts only God knows. When I assume why people behave the way they do, I am judging their actions in light of what I think I know.
Don’t Assume You Know It All
3-4 Don’t lose your grip on Love and Loyalty.
5-12 Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
The Very Tree of Life
Never Walk Away

30-32 Don’t walk around with a chip on your shoulder,
WHAT WE LEARN…
HOLY PAUSE
1-5 Good friend, take to heart what I’m telling you;
Searching for it like a prospector panning for gold,
He’s a rich mine of Common Sense for those who live well,
16-19 Wise friends will rescue you from the Temptress—
God’s wisdom is free for the asking but you must seek Him first to find it. He gives grace to the humble, common sense to the seekers of wisdom with protection and provision for those whose hearts are completely committed to Him. Those who follow the Navigator of all that is right and good find all they were looking for in life.
Seek wise friends who help each other stay on the right path. It is a matter of life and death!
Proverbs – Life Skills
“Wisdom” is the biblical term for this on-earth-as-it-is-in-heaven everyday living. Wisdom is the art of living skillfully in whatever actual conditions we find ourselves. It has virtually nothing to do with information as such, with knowledge as such. A college degree is no certification of wisdom–not is it primarily concerned with keeping us out of moral mud puddles, although it does have a profound moral effect upon us.
Start with God
Dear friend, if bad companions tempt you,

As we review our lives, seek God first each day. Ask Him what He thinks. Allow His Holy Spirit to come and settle you with His Truth.
How are you doing?
Are you doing okay as we go through this extreme change in our lives?
How’s it going?
Before the quarantine we got up each morning to face the responsibilities that the day demanded. We slept at night so we could get up the next day and do it all again. We took on life, as it was, for granted. We went to church on Sunday to get our “God-fix” by praising Him as we normally do while getting our “social-fix” with being with friends we loved hanging around. We grumbled, “I just want to go to church”.
In quarantine we were told to stop everything we knew about life and stay inside our homes…unless your work was “essential”. In quarantine, as God’s meticulously, created humans we began to pull out abilities to adapt that we didn’t know or realize was in us. We began to do all of life from home. We do church at home. School is done at home. Shopping for supplies is done from home with delivery by essential people. We now rely on the internet to stay connected more than any other provision God has provided.
Will our family members be eager to go back to separate lives of school, work, and other activities rather than being forced together in one location? What did we learn about each other in isolation?
TRUTH: The Answer worth living for…

God created us. God wired us in specific ways. God loves us. God wants His best for us which is better than what we think our best should be. Since He created, invented us, and gave us a manual of how we tick and work, shouldn’t we listen to Him? The product of the inventor does not tell others how to use it. The inventor is asked for what purpose his invention was created. The inventor is the One who tells others how the product was designed to work at it’s best.
Plans to Give You the Future You Hope For
4 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. 7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” 8 Yes, this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “Do not let the prophets and diviners among you deceive you. Do not listen to the dreams you encourage them to have. 9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name. I have not sent them,” declares the Lord.
3. God promises, “I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place.”
KNOW ALSO that the evil one still fights for our souls by planting thoughts in our minds which result in behaviors not of God. Evil hits harder when we are tired and weak. When we pray, seeking all of God with a sincere heart, God intervenes, gives victory over evil and then invites us into His work of helping others find and follow Him, too.
Part Two of Two
This is a continuation of what we began yesterday. This comes for hearing Rick Warren’s help to “A Faith That Leads to Emotional Health”. It touches hearts where it hurts. It is helping my heart and providing healing from God as I work through his “ten commandments” for greater emotional health during the Covid crisis.
These are my notes and practical ways of applying what I have learned. For the complete message go to: https://donate.pastorrick.com/donation/ea2005a2…
Let’s us continue…
6. Share Your Feelings Instead of Stuffing Them
“Share each other’s troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (NLT)

We are imperfect humans. We live in a world that cares only for themselves. We fall into those habits of selfishness as believers at times. We do and say dumb things that, at the time, seem harmless to us. Maybe we were saying it just to be funny or to sarcastically make a point. These words and deeds do not come from a heart of love. When it hurts someone else it is time to confess it. Stop and confess it, seek forgiveness from it and work to move forward in peace.
When we don’t confess and apologize, these hurts build and fester like a injury left unattended. It hurts even more in times of trouble, like a quarantine, that changes everything in our lives. Share the troubles with those who love and accept you most. Jesus want us to love each other like He loves us. So it makes sense to love each other in ways that allow them to be as comfortable in sharing troubles and feelings as we would with Jesus, Himself.
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, so that you may be healed.” James 5:16 (KJV)
To hold it in is like blowing up a balloon until it surpasses what it can hold and it eventually bursts sending pieces everywhere!
7. Seek Advice Before Making Major Decisions
I have heard in past counseling classes I’ve had in college that you should NOT make major life-changing decisions during a crisis. Our minds are not in the right frame of mind. We push away wisdom and fall to our feelings. Our feelings are not to be trusted!
“Our plans often fail because we don’t seek advice. But listening to good counsel will bring success.” Proverbs 15:22
“There is safety in seeking multiple counsel.” Proverbs 11:14
Seek advice from believers who know you well, see your gifts and abilities, and love you like Jesus does. Then heed their advice. Listen to them!
“When in doubt…DON’T” as been helpful to me in my adult years. I haven’t always followed that mantra, however, and ended up in more trouble than I had before.
8. Space Renewal Breaks Throughout My Day
“Even young people become exhausted and give up too soon. But those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. The will soar like eagles. They’ll keep running and NOT grow weary. They’ll walk and not grow weak.” Isaiah 40:30-31
As we work our way through establishing new qua-routines, pray for wisdom from God who is not trying to break you but will work in you to renew His Spirit in your Mind, Heart and Soul that He holds precious to Him. Remember, God acts in our lives from a heart of unchanging love, mercy and grace that protects, guides, provides, comforts, and challenges us to grow in His character.
Wait, don’t run ahead of God thinking we know what is best to “fix it”, whatever “it” is. Allow the Lord to do what He does best…renew and restore as He makes the path clear and attainable.
As we said earlier, take time to rest between activities. Take a walk, smell the roses, consider all that God has brought us through in the past as well as currently. Trust Him for our future. Praise Him for He is God and we are not. The more we trust the less anxiety we will have if your trust is in God.
9. Serve Someone Suffering More Than Me
“The religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to care for orphans or widows who need help in their distress and to keep yourself uncorrupted by the world.” James 1:27
“The generous prosper and are satisfied; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25 (NLT)
The world says “we are all in the same boat”…but we are not. We are in the same storm, but NOT in the same boat. Some have yachts while others are bailing out their rowboats. When we look up to God and around at the needs of our neighbors, we can’t possibly keep looking at ourselves.

When we help others, our emotional health skyrockets, not because of the “feel good feeling”, but because we are obeying God’s leading to help. When we help others at a moment’s notice without thinking about the consequences or expecting anything in return, or who knows about it, we just help, it is then that we are maturing in the way Jesus wants.
10. Control the Controllable and Trust God for the Rest
(From Abraham’s example) “We see that his faith and his actions worked together. His faith was made complete by what he did.” James 2:22
Do what you can as the Lord leads and let God do the rest. He gives us what we need when we need it as we join Him in HIS work. He is at work always. We can rely on knowing God knows.
Let us pray for God to make our faith complete. May our faith and hope in Christ that leads to greater and better emotional health be paramount in our thinking and behaving each day we rise greet a new day. Be grateful for the new day. For God made it and gave it to us. “Rejoice and be glad in it.” May the peace of Christ rule our hearts.
Dear Lord and Savior,
Lead us in the ways we should go. You have our attention. You have my life. Heal me. Heal our land.
In Jesus Name, Amen. I believe.
“Don’t burn out! KEEP YOURSELVES FUELED and aflame…Don’t quit in hard times; instead pray all the harder.” Romans 12:11-12 (The Message)
We need to pray “ALL THE HARDER” as Paul reminds us as God’s believers. “Don’t quit in hard times”. How can we stay fueled and on fire with God as our trusted Voice above all other voices?
1. SHOW GRACE to myself and others.
THAT is normal. Stress makes us more tired than usual. THAT is normal. So if you feel tired after the smallest of tasks, then rest. Allow your family to rest. Online teaching is a humongous stress for the entire family. Take time to rest in between tasks of all kinds. Don’t add new challenges at this time. Don’t make major decisions, either. Do what you can, when you can, and rest. Just rest. Even God rested on the seventh day. Rest in Him, with Him. Be amazed at what He will say to us in the rest.
2. START AND END each day refueling my soul.
3. STICK WITH A SIMPLE ROUTINE.
4. STOP WATCHING SO MUCH NEWS
5. SCHEDULE A DAILY CONNECTION WITH PEOPLE I LOVE
We love each other at our church, so as leaders working from home, we are CALLING them often to see how they are doing. We have prayer with them as needed. With a couple of thousand people, this has been quite an undertaking as a staff but the blessings in this act of love have reminded us of the importance of real connection from a heart of love and care, not duty or obligation.
What do you think so far? Great stuff, right?! So applicable “in times like these”, (smiling as I make fun of the media).
GOD KNOWS ME
Psalm 139
2 You know when I sit down or stand up.
7 I can never escape from your Spirit!
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.

GOD MADE US
GOD HAS A PERFECTLY PURPOSED PLAN FOR US

Dear Heavenly Father,
