“OH, I LOVE that shirt!”, “I love that new haircut on you!” “I love your new car, because I love that new car smell!” “I love our new home” “I love my new job!” We can go on and on about the things that we love…HERE on earth. But what about THERE in our someday eternal home with Jesus? Things are temporary. Do we throw that word, around too much and mislead others about our True Love?
God’s Word, through Peter, sends us reminders all the time about what love is, Who love is and tells us consistently that world is NOT what to love.
REMINDER ONE…
“I remind you dear children: Your sins are forgiven in Jesus’ name. You veterans were in on the ground floor, and know the One who started all this; you newcomers have won a big victory over the Evil One.” 2 Peter 2, Msg
REMINDER TWO…
“And a second reminder, dear children: You know the Father from personal experience. You veterans know the One who started it all; and you newcomers–such vitality and strength! God’s word is so steady in you. Your fellowship with God enables you to gain a victory over the Evil One.”
WHAT NOT TO LOVE…
“Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world–wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important–has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out–but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.” 2 Peter 2, Msg
A good question to ask ourselves today is What do I love most? Do my actions show Who I love? Does the attitude and passion of my heart reflect what I am building here to take there? Am I being and doing what God wants?
Dear Heavenly Father, Your word convicts us and challenges us to revere this word “love” as You see it. You are Love. Our True Love. Make Your desires and wants our desires and wants for only then we will find perfect peace. Only then will we be set with You for eternity. Thank you, Lord, for these reminders. May we meditate and act on these words of wisdom all day long. Transform us to think more like You, for we LOVE You!
In Jesus Name, Amen
