STAY WITH IT…SERIOUSLY…STAY WITH TRUTH!
Mom taught me to sew while I was a teenager. Together we made dresses and even suits and other fun clothing. In my younger days it was actually cheaper to sew than buy and you can make the pattern fit perfectly…IF you cut the cloth from the original pattern.
Mom’s first lesson in sewing was a huge DO NOT. The DO NOT was you have to use the pattern each time you cut a piece for your garment. DO NOT take the cut piece and use that as the pattern to make another cut piece. It will not be true and be off just enough not to fit perfectly when you begin sewing the pieces together for the whole garment. You must use the original pattern each time you make the cut. Mm.
I am reminded of her and feel her smiling from heaven somehow as I tell you about Christ, our Perfect Pattern, our Original, and our Example of how to live. Peter, in God’s Word to us this morning, is adamant about staying with the Original Message of Christ…
“Stay with what you heard from the beginning, the original message. Let it sink into your life. If what you heard from the beginning lives deeply in you, you will live deeply in both Son and Father. This is exactly what Christ promised: eternal life, real life!”
“Christ’s anointing teaches you the truth on everything you need to know about yourself and him, uncontaminated by a single lie. Live deeply in what you were taught.”
“And now, children, stay with Christ. Live deeply in Christ. Then we’ll be ready for him when he appears, ready to receive him with open arms, with no cause fro red-faced guilt or lame excuses when he arrives.”
“Once you’re convinced that he is right and righteous, you’ll recognize that all who practice righteousness are God’s true children.” 2 Peter 2, Msg
SO, we learn not to use ourselves or others as the pattern for living. I pray no one copies me! I pray we all copy Christ! He our hope, our future, our righteousness, our pattern for living, our future, our real life…eternally. Yes.
Let’s get dressed…in righteousness!
Dear Heavenly Father, The secret is Christ in us showing us how to live and giving us the power to live in His ways by His standards. When we don’t make the cut, we are forgiven with love and grace and given mercy and wisdom to learn and move onward and upward with higher ground thinking and behaving. Our pattern is You, dear Lord, and no one else. Thank you! Help us stay alert to Truth. Help us to stay with You. In Jesus Name, Amen
