Psalms of Honesty and Truth

“He’s making a list and checking it twice, gonna find out who’s naughty and nice”…That may be Santa’s mantra but it is not God’s method of operation. God came down in the form of a human baby to provide salvation when we were “naughty”, full of sin. His most important gift to us is our debt of sin paid in full. This gift lasts forever and never wears out when we accept this holy Gift of the Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s Son. God does not have to find out who’s naughty and nice, he already knows. He knows our hearts, our motivations and our reasons for living. There is nothing hidden from God.

This next psalm is a plethora of God’s gifts to us…read and be blessed and remember God is not Santa. We deserve nothing but God graciously gives us everything in the form of mercy, grace and forgiveness. So, God is much more and His love is deeper, stronger, and more powerful than we can wrap our minds around. But, let’s try…

Psalm 111, The Message

Hallelujah!
I give thanks to God with everything I’ve got—
Wherever good people gather, and in the congregation.
God’s works are so great, worth
A lifetime of study—endless enjoyment!

Splendor and beauty mark his craft;
His generosity never gives out.
His miracles are his memorial—

This God of Grace, this God of Love.

He gave food to those who fear him,
He remembered to keep his ancient promise.
He proved to his people that he could do what he said:
Hand them the nations on a platter—a gift!
He manufactures truth and justice;

All his products are guaranteed to last—
Never out-of-date, never obsolete, rust-proof.
All that he makes and does is honest and true:

He paid the ransom for his people,
He ordered his Covenant kept forever.
He’s so personal and holy, worthy of our respect.
The good life begins in the fear of God—
Do that and you’ll know the blessing of God.
His Hallelujah lasts forever!

Dear Heavenly Father,
Wow! You are Holy and worthy of our humble praise and adoration. We are grateful for all the gifts you give daily, not just once a year! You are not “Santa”, You are God, King of kings, Lord of lords, awesome and majestic, powerful and beautiful. Nothing escapes your knowledge. And yet, You love us. Still. Thank you. We are not a list you check, but a person, your uniquely created that you watch over, protect, provide for and love deeply. Help us to live and love like you taught us.
