Thessalonians – Hope
It is so easy to slip back into old habits and ways that hurt us and those around us. We need God’s Holy Spirit to help us stay focused once we have said yes to Him and have repented of our past sin through Jesus Christ. God want us to live a pure life…unbranded, detached and free from what the evil one wants in his effort to bring us down and destroy us. Paul clearly tells us how to live a pure life in intimate relationship with Jesus by His Spirit, knowing He will be back again.
1 Thessalonians 41 Thessalonians 4, The Message
You’re God-Taught
4 1-3 One final word, friends. We ask you—urge is more like it—that you keep on doing what we told you to do to please God, not in a dogged religious plod, but in a living, spirited dance. You know the guidelines we laid out for you from the Master Jesus. God wants you to live a pure life.
Keep yourselves from sexual promiscuity.
4-5 Learn to appreciate and give dignity to your body, not abusing it, as is so common among those who know nothing of God.
6-7 Don’t run roughshod over the concerns of your brothers and sisters. Their concerns are God’s concerns, and he will take care of them. We’ve warned you about this before. God hasn’t invited us into a disorderly, unkempt life but into something holy and beautiful—as beautiful on the inside as the outside.
8 If you disregard this advice, you’re not offending your neighbors; you’re rejecting God, who is making you a gift of his Holy Spirit.
9-10 Regarding life together and getting along with each other, you don’t need me to tell you what to do. You’re God-taught in these matters. Just love one another! You’re already good at it; your friends all over the province of Macedonia are the evidence. Keep it up; get better and better at it.
11-12 Stay calm; mind your own business; do your own job. You’ve heard all this from us before, but a reminder never hurts. We want you living in a way that will command the respect of outsiders, not lying around sponging off your friends.
1 Thessalonians 4 Gods bestWhat do we learn?
–Keep yourselves sexually pure.
–Give dignity and respect to the body God created you to have.
–Don’t think you can solve the problems of those around you. Only God does that in His best way for them. He will take care of them likes He takes care of you. We just pray, God works.
–God invites us into His life of beauty and perfection. Look at “the lilies of the field”, Jesus. God takes care with them as he does with us–as beautiful on the inside as the outside, created by Him.
–Living any other way is rejecting God.
–Get along with each other. “Love God. Love one another,” Jesus taught. Keep getting better and better at loving each other.
–Stay calm.
–Do what God has invited you to do.
–Do it in the most excellent way–with Love.
–Live to please God. We will Be a difference in this world by following this advice.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Your Word and example of Jesus Christ is simple and profound at the same time. It is opposite of how the world thinks. That’s why we stand out in the crowd when we follow You with love in our hearts for You and others. Keep us focused on You and Your ways. Transform me. Transform your church. Transform the world.
In Jesus Name, Amen
He’s coming back, you know….
