Psalms – Prayers of Honesty and Praise
Psalm 92 thanks
How can I say thanks
For the things You have done for me?
Things so undeserved
Yet You gave to prove Your love for me;
The voices of a million angels
Could not express my gratitude
All that I am and ever hope to be
I owe it all to Thee….
I grew up on this song. I sang this song with others and as a solo. This song is a mantra of praise for God to Whom we owe everything. It is our best attempt as imperfect humans to say thank you. But we must continue to try…with our very lives.
To God be the glory
To God be the glory
To God be the glory
For the things He has done
Psalm 92 thank you
Why is it so hard for us to say thanks and give God all the glory for all the good things that happen in our lives, for all the times He gave us peace in chaotic times and for providing answers when we didn’t have a clue?
With His blood He has saved me
With His power He has raised me;
To God be the glory
For the things He has done
Psalm 93 God's works
Why is our first thought of patting ourselves on the back after a good productive success? When others give us praise, how do we receive it?
We are trained from birth by our parents to do the right thing. When we did the right thing, they praised us. Praise followed good behavior. Our teachers trained us in this way, too. As we mature we come to realize that we cannot live on the praise of man. This leads to a cycle of work equals praise and when we do not get it, we pout. There has to be more.
We need more. We need to GIVE praise to whom all praise is due. We need to work to please God and then give Him all the praise for helping us. We, as imperfect, cannot “be good” on our own. (I’ve tried, it doesn’t work!) We weren’t not created to do life on our own. We need God. We were created to praise The One who made us and knows us well.
Psalm 92 1We were created to love Him back because He first loved us…with a love that is more than we can imagine…a love that laid down His life for us at Calvary! New cycle of praise matures in us. We do the right thing, even when no one is watching, because of our deep, intimate love for our Savior and Lord! It is because of this relationship that we mature in our thinking about praise and giving thanks.
Just let me live my life
Let it pleasing, Lord to Thee
And if I gain any praise
Let it go to Calvary…
Psalm 92, The Message
A Sabbath Song
Psalm 92 faith.png
1-3 What a beautiful thing, God, to give thanks,
to sing an anthem to you, the High God!
To announce your love each daybreak,
sing your faithful presence all through the night,
Accompanied by dulcimer and harp,
the full-bodied music of strings.
4-9 You made me so happy, God
I saw your work and I shouted for joy.
How magnificent your work, God!
How profound your thoughts!
Dullards never notice what you do;
fools never do get it.
When the wicked popped up like weeds
and all the evil men and women took over,
You mowed them down,
finished them off once and for all.
You, God, are High and Eternal.
Look at your enemies, God!
Look at your enemies—ruined!
Scattered to the winds, all those hirelings of evil!
Psalm 92 chosen
10-14 But you’ve made me strong as a charging bison,
you’ve honored me with a festive parade.
The sight of my critics going down is still fresh,
the rout of my malicious detractors.
Psalm 92 12
My ears are filled with the sounds of promise:
“Good people will prosper like palm trees,
Grow tall like Lebanon cedars;
transplanted to God’s courtyard,
They’ll grow tall in the presence of God,
lithe and green, virile still in old age.”
15 Such witnesses to upright God!
My Mountain, my huge, holy Mountain!
Psalm-92-sing-for-joy.jpgPAUSE TO PRAISE AND GIVE THANKS…
It is good to give thanks because in giving thanks our minds begin to focus on God’s promises to us. This produces even more praise and thanksgiving to God!
Thank you, Lord for saving my soul
Thank you, Lord for making me whole
Thank you, Lord for giving to me
Thy great salvation so rich and free.
List all the promises of God that He has fulfilled and is fulfilling in Your life. Give thanks.
Think of the last and greatest promise of living with God forever in a place of no tears or sadness, only joy unspeakable and full of God’s glory. And give thanks.
Yes, it IS a beautiful thing, God, to give thanks! A thankful life is a joyful life no matter what is happening all around us!
Psalm 92 thanks all the timeDear Heavenly Father,
You are God and and we are not. You are the One and Only to be praised! Thank you, Lord for saving us. Thank you for promises fulfilled daily on my journey. I see Your work in others as well. To You be all glory, honor and praise forever and ever, Amen Help us to be witnesses of Your Glory today!
In Jesus Name, Amen
