I STAND IN AWE

Psalms – Prayers of Honesty and Praise

psalm 116 praise god
Each morning for me begins with prayer to our Father in Jesus Name. A mug of coffee and a cup of Cheerios brings me to “breakfast with my Lord”. I begin to talk to God, asking for His desires to become my desires. I pray for help, strength and wisdom as I grow through learning His Word and mature through living His Word by His power within me. I confess I cannot do life alone. I will not do life alone. I confess my messes.

I write these prayers in journal form. I used to write with pen and paper, now it is done electronically. I do this so that I can stay focused. I pray in the Name of Jesus. I pray for God to use me to encourage someone else to find and follow Jesus. I pray HIS will to be done. I thank God for all He has done, is doing and will do in my life and in the lives of those I love. At the end of prayer for all concerns with problems that need solutions, I stop to listen. After I pour out my life before God I have found it is imperative that I stop in the quiet retreat from the noise of the world to listen.

psalm 119 119When I think about WHO I am listening to for marching orders for the day, “I shiver in awe” like the psalmist relates. I understand how the writer feels. This is a form of worship! Be still and listen. Be still and know Who we are talking to…seriously.

IMAGINE, THINK about it! We are talking to the God of all Who bends down to listen and then speaks to us about how much He loves us and is ready to help us. This marvelous, honored privilege is courtesy of Jesus Christ, His Son, God’s perfect, acceptable sacrifice to God for our sin. Jesus’ sacrifice not only gave us salvation but an open door to the throne of God!

psalm 119 120 in awe
If you are not standing in awe of God yet, you will when you consider all that God is. God is not who we make Him. God is. God is the great I AM, who was and is and forever will be. God created the world and everything and every person in it. Yes, God is beyond our description.

As I read our next passage in Psalm 119, this song of humbled praise is playing in the background of my time with God…

You are beautiful beyond description
Too marvelous for words
Too wonderful for comprehension
Like nothing ever seen or heard
Who can grasp Your infinite wisdom?
Who can fathom the depth of Your love?
You are beautiful beyond description
Majesty, enthroned above

And I stand, I stand in awe of You
I stand, I stand in awe of You
Holy God, to whom all praise is due
I stand in awe of You

psalm 119 113Psalm 119, The Message
Part 15
113-120

I hate the two-faced,
but I love your clear-cut revelation.
You’re my place of quiet retreat;
psalm 119 117
I wait for your Word to renew me.
Get out of my life, evildoers,
so I can keep my God’s commands.
Take my side as you promised; I’ll live then for sure.
Don’t disappoint all my grand hopes.
Stick with me and I’ll be all right;
I’ll give total allegiance to your definitions of life.
psalm 119 120 nivExpose all who drift away from your sayings;
their casual idolatry is lethal.
You reject earth’s wicked as so much rubbish;
therefore I lovingly embrace everything you say.
I shiver in awe before you;
your decisions leave me speechless with reverence.

psalm 119 120 stand
VERSE 2
You are beautiful beyond description
Yet God crushed You for my sin
In agony and deep affliction
Cut off that I might enter in
Who can grasp such tender compassion?
Who can fathom this mercy so free?
You are beautiful beyond description
Lamb of God who died for me

And I stand, I stand in awe of You
I stand, I stand in awe of You
Holy God, to whom all praise is due
I stand in awe of You

psalm 119 120 character of godDear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for being our place of quiet retreat. Thank you for Your daily manna from Your Word that restores and renews our hearts, minds and souls who long for You. Thank you for Life abundant just knowing You. Thank you for guidance and direction, for obstacles and walls brought down, making our path easier to walk. Thank you for saving us. Thank you for Your Holy Presence in our lives. I stand in awe of You.
In Jesus Name and by His Power we live, Amen. I believe.
